shop is reorganised and ready for a new project.
« on: January 29, 2012, 07:18:59 PM »
Here are three shots, (hopefully...) of the new shop layout.  I recently got the big tool box, (Christmas... I was good boy...), It's AWESOME!!!! it has all my engines, painting equipment, props, spinners, handles, lines, gauges, etc, all in a lockable 330 lb box!!  The big stack of wood over the tool box is three rows deep and about two feet high, plus some under on shelf just under that.  The main table has a used top over the fresh and perfectly flat building Jig.  There's a bench tattoo on the main surface that says "good enough doesn't exist here".  Keeps me trying to do better.  The little 1/2a's are for decoration, the stack of FS's are racers/trainers.

I'm very excited with this iteration of the shop.  The next step is finishing the walls and wiring etc.  The wood will be slotted into a special cabinet with divided sections for each size.  It will mount high and over the work surface that will run over the top of the tool box.  The wood cabinet will have lighting under it for the top of the work surface.  A similar cabinet will reside opposite it at the other end of the work surface and it will hold plans.  I have two 2 foot x 4 foot lower cabinets that will support the work surface at either side of the tool box.

Where the wood is now will be storage for work in progress.  So the wings and fuse can be outta the way when other projects, (ski tuning, little boy toy fixing,.... ) takes place.

The real exciting part is there will be a storage room built for finished models at one end of the shop.  Currently I have 7 PA ships and several classic sized models.  All will fit in the proposed room and will be visible from the outside through glass doors.  At least that's the plan so far.

That's the news!

Bruce,

Ya know, it may just be me, but this looks just like a shop in need of something to do.

Looks good, Bruce. Considering that the balsa will soon be split 4 ways, I think you'll need to order more. Anything in the fridge? LL~ Steve

Don"t forget to leave room for the important things like Outrunners,; E.S.C.s ;Timers :and some cool storage space for li-pos . I know that you're sort of insular , way up there by the north pole, but the E-Virus is spreading fast.Already Chris Cox and Alan Resinger have been infected down here in Vancouver.Seriously I envy your shop. Don't keep it too clean, let the balsa dust flow.

Bruce,

Way to go, feels good to get things all lined up and ready to go. Takes me a day to straighten things all up and about 10 minutes to make it look like a cyclone hit it. Oh the fun of model airplanes, eh :).

Good job,

I wish I had a cool shop like that. I did move up from a folding card table to a 6ft folding table from Costco.

Here are some more pics,

One will show the requisite pegboard.  Yes that's a ski on the bench, Allana needed a ski tune...

Another will show a collection of kits, Including every wind dancer (including Tucker 4), some Umland kits, and the required Noblers, some must haves like a VooDoo, Super chip, Barnstormer, etc.

The last shot should include the saws and other "necessaries"....

Adjacent this area is the flat screen and stereo with a 500 lb Radial Engine table to set the mood.  There's also an 8 x 8 foot wall full of model magazines back to the 40's.  I have many windy vids, All of Bob Hunt's stuff, and LOTS of my own.

The next project is cutting more Foam for Jesters.  I'm behind on this project and need to get going.  Plans are stalled due to needing info from me.  They look SO cool though.  It's pretty awesome seeing your own design in commercial quality production.

PJ,

Thanks for the kind words, the bench is medium density fibreboard, and is 4 feet by 6 feet.  Perfect for all size stunters.

Milton,

It's about 13 x 18 and all finished models are stored in the adjacent room.  I really like the space, but as always more would be even better.  The final iteration will make maximum use of available space I hope.  Lots of good ideas online.

Larry,

The box was born of necessity.  There are lots of plans in there, a veritable stunt history.  I studied previous designs and tried to follow along with the history of stunter development.  Some planes seemed ahead of their time, like the Tucker Special.  So I built one to see, it's by far my most successful airplane.  Lot's of first places with that one.  I have several airplanes (plans) from friends, most are signed by the designer.  That's not to say that they aren't for building though... hahaha

There are lots of projects here.  Some will never see the light of day.  But that's okay.  It's all fun.

Aviojet,
I'm sure if you search my name you'll find the last two Jesters, there are some great shots on Flying Lines of both.  Elwyn Aud has a pic of Merlin in flight missing wheel pant at the 2004 worlds.  There may even be a shot of Legend at the 1998 Ukraine worlds somewhere on the interweb.  Anything prior to that i haven't seen on the web. My Tucker may show up in some shots too.  Alberta control line Flying Club is on facebook and there are lots of good shots there.  Just ask to be a member and I'll get you access.  Same for all here.

That's the schizzle.....

Bruce,

Thanks for the photos, that's good work.

I like art, in tune with the name. Creative!

I shouldn't have to remind people, I've been in R/C and am new to CL this trip. Haven't done CL since the early 60's.

Never followed it either.

So, how can I be expected to actually know who everyone is or the models they have built.

This is why I ask members to Post their models.

Besides, it's always fun and interesting to view other modeler's work.

I got stuff coming.

You'll see.

Search Google for "Bruce Perry threw a shoe"   ~>

Bruce : How do you console J1 from the obvious jealously in that photo?

Shop looks great after the clean up.. Perhaps I should scour FB for the photos of the shop when J2 was a baby.. sandpaper everywhere... flaps, parts of fuselage laying around - quite a mess. I know that's how I build - create a masterpiece within a mess - then clean up and start again.

I would suggest that you spray the peg board white before yo hang it. It will make the shop seem a lot brighter. Brown / tan peg board seems to suck up light like a Black Hole!

Also when the background is white the tools and stuff show up better against it.
