T-6 update: sidelined for "business trip"
« on: February 08, 2015, 12:32:27 PM »
Was looking to spray the wings last night but the wx report was reporting some pretty high humidity, so I cranked up the space heater in the garage and robbed the hydrometer out of my cigar humidor.  Got down to 47% so we went for it.  The fuse and tail feathers were mostly done by brush so it was mostly shooting base coats on the wings.  After 3 coats, I brushed some red on the inboard-most bottom rib bay to see how transparent the dope was at this point, and if it could be seen from the top then I would have to dust a light coat of all-white dope over the top.  Well, as you can see (or not see for that matter :) ) the red is not visible, and no white coats will be needed!  Huge props to Bob Arata for thinking up this method.

Time to PAUSEX (you military types know what that means) and start packing.  Im headed down to the National Training Center out in Ft Irwin , CA as a guest Observer/Coach/Trainer and will be working with a couple RQ-7 Shadow units as they conduct unit training down there.  Not happy about having to put the model down but it is a big opportunity.  Our Battalion is supposed to be fielding their own Shadow unit sometime this year, this will be their first experience with the airframe, and it will be me telling them what right and wrong looks like.  As I'm typing this, I'm starting to get a little excited   #^

So out to the garage to bag up the T-6 and hang it on the wall for a month.  While I'm out at Irwin, Ill be ordering the graphics for it.  Stay tuned!

while you are out there at Irwin, if you get the chance and want some good Mexican food, head in the Barstow and hit Platas.
also, check out at Calico Dry lake  and see if they are still flying RC there on Sat and Sun mornings around 10AM.
Harts cafe used to be a good place to get a great b-fast off the freeway there by the dry lake.

I am from Barstow and know my way around that place.

Sean,
Your "business" is much appreciated. I pray that you and your guys get permission to really do the job right.  Unfortunately we might have to wait until 2016.

Thanks to repeat customers (ISIS, AQ, TB) business is good  8)

It is nice to see other nations taking a more genuine interest in all of this baffoonery.  King Abdullah II is a bad*ss and pretty sure he could beat Chuck Norris in an arm- wrestling match.  The POTUS's refusal to grant General Atomics an export license to Jordan is pretty suspect....

As someone hinted above, might need to wait 'til there's someone with cojones in the White House.
