T-6 update 30 Nov
« on: November 30, 2014, 10:23:11 PM »
Got farther then I planned this weekend.

Was surprised how rigid the fuselage builds up to. Very stiff even without the side sheeting. Added 2 degrees incidence in the stab.  Got the stab started as well. Full speed ahead!

Sean,

That looks very nice! :)  Do you have any photos of the fuse before the sheeting was added?  I like to see the construction underneath the sheeting.  Is that T-6 one of Don Hutchinson's designs?  If so do his plans show the built up profile fuse construction?

Looking good!

Hey Shawn,

Yes this is Dons design, and it does show the built up structure, 1/4x1/2 frame and 1/8x1/2 bracing. The nose is solid 1/2" sheet

2 degrees of incidence on the stab?  That seems like a lot!

Can't remember off the top what Joe Gilbert ended up with but am thinking it was around 2 deg. Pretty sure he posted it in one the threads where his T-6 was mentioned but not sure which one. When Don built that T-6 he made the stab incidence adjustable. Whatever it is, it must work. Joe has had what a 3 or 4 year run with that T-6 without being beat in Expert Profile flying it all over the country. I like to think (because I'm biased) the Saito 40 on the nose has something to do with it but in reality it's just a good airplane with good power in good hands.

Yeah 2 degrees is what Joe ended up at. As for the motor, you are correct. I'm going with a ST 51 for the same reasons: power and more power!  It also eliminates the need to add the 4oz of nose weight per the plans

Christ with the wing so far below the thrust line it helps cornering allot

I would be a little worried about going up 2 degrees on the stab. I have seen photos of Joe and the elevators show some "up" in level flight. Also, the Dauntless is 0-0 and flies just fine.

I rigged the controls up on mine and got everything level and it looks the same as Joes.  The elevator is parallel to the centerline.  I think it just looks like a big deal because the stab is so long. Not trying to reinvent your wheel  H^^ just trying to recreate Joes setup
