Zuriel Armstrong on this forum spotted the T-28 in the background of another post of mine and requested some more info, so here goes...
I feel this this one requires some explaining.
When I officially became a re-tread back in early '02 after being away from the hobby for some 20+ years, this was the second plane I built. The first was a 36" Sterling P-38.
I soon hooked up with the Minneapolis Piston Poppers, and at the very first meeting I attended, I won a Twister wing kit in the raffle. I thought a T-28 would work out with the wing shape so I took a scale 3-view, ran to Kinko's, and blew it up until the wing hit the Twister span of 48". Then, I printed the 3-view, and had my part patterns. I copied the fuse, fin/rudder and stab/elevator outlines exactly as printed in that size. This is why the fuse ended up looking too big for the wing. Lesson learned.
I finished the model originally with an O.S..40LA-S and took it to the field with a big grin. I found that it flew pretty good, but wasn't going to be any threat at the World's. It's just too heavy for the wing, and has way too much side area, so I retired it. The side area isn't as big a deal as it may seem however, but it sure pulls hard on the downwind side! This plane did teach me a lot of things though, mostly what NOT to do on the next one.
Anyway, when Zuriel requested the info, I decided to pull it off the wall and mount up an O.S..40FP I had sitting around. I took some pics, and I think I'll take it to the field this weekend!
