Jim "Uncle Jimby" Aron has done it again. Today were the first flights of his new Systrema - 20% more wing area and ~ the same weight as the last one. And another potential 20 point finish. Behold:

Workmanship is, as expected, of the highest order. Unless it gets run over by a tank, it will be in the front row for certain. It has some innovative tricks to hide the arming plug, which may require some modification to be practical, but very cool.
The base color is a sort of low-saturation Orange, like Papaya Orange (used on McLaren race cars) but it pops much better than it shows here, in these foggy-morning pictures.
But the best thing about is that it flies much better than the smaller version, pretty much right from the first flight. A minor tweak, some handle adjustment, and a touch of nose weight and he was flying it at least as well as he flew the other one on the third flight.
All in all, a a very successful first flying session!

As good as it looks here, it's actually much better, because some idiot with close to 50 years of photographic experience including professional paid work, couldn't manage to check his exposure compensation settings from the last session, and underexposed them all by 3 stops! It was "fixed" in Nikon View in the raw file, but, turned the ultra-high-res 24 MP camera into a Pocket Instamatic. I hate that guy.
The light was poor, too, since we were more concerned about getting it flying than creating artistic masterpieces, with predictable results...

Canopy’s on backwards. You reckon it’s too late to turn it around?

Very nice Jimby CLP**

I think, as a helpful guy, you should suggest that. If you come towards him with a Zona saw in your hand, he will understand your level of concern.

Looks wicket cool. H^^

Wow! What a beautiful plane, Jim.
So impressive!

Stunning!

I was told recently that Latin is a dead language. The fellow said it killed the Romans and in his youthful schooling it was killing him
hic certe tempus = This time for sure
Great job!

Looks great! If Howard does turn the canopy around, I don't think it would be very noticeable.
On the other hand, Howard's misshapen & lumpy lumpy molded balsa canopy should be cause for concern to all. S?P Steve

That is every cool.

And, I am one of the fortunate few who will see this new beauty in person! Maybe even at our freshly paved Alameda circle ...
Is this a 0-0-0 alignment? It appears so in the pictures.
-
Look at that fuselage. It's all compound curves and indentations. How do you build that? How do you sand that? How do you mask that? Then there's the opaque paint next to the matching transparent covering on the wing. Then there's the paint tapering to a point. If I could do stuff like that I'd never get my bottoms down.

WOW!!! Absolutely beautiful work Jim!!!

Very nice, That is no Run of the Mill bird. Fantastic!

Let's hope it's not antibiotic resistant.

Great work Jim!

Thanks everyone. I think you're all being a tad generous (especially my pal, Brett), but I do really appreciate the positive feedback. With all the effort we put into these things.....well, you know.
-
Well done! A true work of art!
-
With the magnificent work done to that model and the nose treatment especially I could never envision this as a glow powered model. Beautifully done.

At least he didn't buy his spinner from Bozo.
Well done Jim!
Derek

Certainly stunning work. You've outdone yourself.
-
Yet another out of this world effort by Jim. Everything he builds is a masterpiece.
Why do I even bother?

Boy, you make one clown-nose spinner and you can never live it down.

Not when you consistently criticize other people's, much more attractive, canopies...

Like a lot of photography (no matter how talented the artist) pictures don’t do this masterpiece justice.
I saw the plane at masking stage and was totally blown away. It is largely original with it’s own wing and fuselage design, wing sheeting that matches to the color layout, Titanium landing gear, a new “clip in, no bolt” battery cover and more that I likely don’t even know about.
Hopefully Jimby will do a show and tell for a PAMPA article at some stage.

Because they’re wrong. Somebody has to speak up.
-
Excellent work Jimby!
I have to agree... a backwards canopy looks way better than a spinner that took the full force of a nosedive into thw pavement..
And Howard your stuff is obnoxiously impressive, paint, fit and finish!
Could we see photos of this new arming system?
-
Very nice work Jimby. Glad the settings worked out for you. Can't wait to see it fly on person!
And the canopy in not very backwards, not like our friend who says "but it's working just fine", now that is on backwards.

The best part is that this one looked "right" from the instant it broke ground, and really never put a foot wrong afterwards.

WHAT? NOT GLOW POWERED? "Dammit Jim!!!"* y1 Steve

I think you misunderstood, I wasn't suggesting he didn't deserve it.
I was giving directions.

A refreshing change and one of the most beautiful ships I have seen. This is what the design freedom electric gives us! I would love to know how the power train is arranged.

I'd be happy to show the arming system when I finally get it to work. Currently on my 4th iteration. I'll give it a go on Sunday and see how it works. I think this one is the one.

Ken
Ken: The arrangement is not revolutionary, albeit tight. I'm installing the Plett 20-16 right now in place of the 15-22 to move the CG forward a little. I'd like to get it all worked out before I start airing out my dirty laundry, so to speak.

Wow; looks great. Bet you're going to give Chris and his new plane a little competition for cake honors this year.
