Surprise visitor in town!
« on: August 30, 2022, 04:40:56 PM »
Monday morning had me collecting this gentleman at his hotel in Sydney after he flew in earlier in the morning.   He even offered to brush the mess off the milling machine (joking!) when we got into the workshop!!  Had a great day chatting about modelling and old cars.  How time flies since our last meeting 2016 in Perth Aus.   Dave can now start on the new Thundergazer series as he has some new essential parts.  Modelling, the international language.

I still look on here most days Greg to see what is going on in the world!   Sometimes I think I've been asleep at the local field as the "reported engine runs and flights" of some here in NSW are nothing like I'm seeing.  I may have to get wife to put a bit of Scotch in the coffee so I can hear and see better.  D>K

Sure is an Aurora 60 Greg.  Has been hanging on the wall since about 2011 when I lost faith in the R/C side of modelling.  It and the classic Kazmirski Taurus  got damaged when the workshop was part demolished 2013 when the tree fell on it.  Both repaired but only Taurus ever flew again a couple of times.  During the lockdown I built what I affectionately called "Covid 3", an MK Blue Angel 40 R/C but with all the wet weather/flooding it hasn't got off the ground much.

Aluminium swarf!  Yes, still a lot of it around but mainly from VW aircooled engines for a local mechanic.   The ones on the mill are from Dave's special request.   I've been involved with Dave direct and indirect since before 2008.  I was involved with the plug or what ever we call the former for Brian Eather's large tuned pipe for the PA 75 engines which power the Thundergazer.  Brian only has a small Hercus (Southbend copy) lathe whereas I had a workshop full of real size lathes and Cylindrical grinders as I was still gainfully employed by NSW Tech and Further Education so the job was much easier for me to do the machining back then.   Alloy is hard to get locally so have to get it way down south of Sydney now.

Now for some good weather to complete the painting on a Palmer Skyscraper and T-Bird II.

Steve, I don't even use that stuff as a cutting lubricant, leave alone trying to eat the stuff 😁. I can't stand the smell of it!
