Title: Super Duper Zilch with Anderson Spitfire
Post by: Skip Chernoff on May 05, 2019, 09:39:50 PM
Here are a couple of pics of my Zilch powered by Anderson Spitfire. She's silk and doped ,weighs 58 oz ready to fly. Has "Larry's" transistorized ignition. I'm using a 3.7 volt NiMH 3 cell pack. 5oz Brodak uniflow tank, 13x6 prop, gonna start out on 66' x .015 lines. For starters I'll run the coleman stove fuel with the Walmart Super tech dino oil at 3 to 1. The special feature of this ship is the engine is muffled with flow thru muffler. Anxious to see how things go.... Cheers PhillySkip

Hi Skip, Really looks sharp! Will you be flying this combo at Brodak's this June? Bet you do well with it!

Skip,

The SD Zilch looks super.  That has to be the best looking canopy I've ever
seen on a Zilch....nice job.

Be sure and give us a flight report, and an engine performance report.  It will be
interesting to see how the Spitfire handles the muffler....maybe it won't be
any problem at all.  Nice to have someone that can machine the adaptor
for you.

Cheers.

Great looking SDZ. I would start of with around 2 to 2-1/2 oz. of stove fuel and see how much time that gives you. Of course it will depend on how you set the needle also. You may be surprised how much power you get out of the Anderson. They do put out the power.

Let us know how she fly's.

I'm curious to see how the Anderson holds up with a muffler on it.

Hey guys I've been out of the country vacationing in Aruba (Hilton highly recommended),just got back. Thanks for all of the kind words regarding the Zilch. I was hoping to fly it today, but the rain Gods seem to have a different plan.
I've got a 5oz metal tank in there so I'll be able to try both the stove and glow fuels.

Just for the sake of discussion I've got a brand new cylinder, piston and rod assembly for the engine that is in the plane AND a brand new "Reproduction" Spitfire NIB......just in case.

Yes I plan on flying it at Brodaks in OTS Advanced if all goes well. I'm thinking of putting one of my other Sparkers into my battle tested Polywog Chief as a back up......Cheers ,and good to be back on the Forum.....PhillySkip
