I’ll try and be there as well with an orange skyray 37.5 but will “probably” be driving my Silver Bentley or Gold Rolls Royce, (whichever takes my whim).

Don’t expect to see Larry before 11:00am or so if he deigns to come, and then only if he has the accompaniment of a catwalk model on either arm.

Oh boy! If Brett and Uncle Bob are going to be there, I'll show too.
I don't know what I'll fly. I have had the worst luck at that field.
A 12 inch Eather prop ground down to 10 inches from a dip in the asphalt.
Lines caught on weeds at the edge of the asphalt sent a Sig Chipmunk into free flight after it turned 90 degrees and flew through the middle of the circle at about twenty feet off the ground. Hit the end of the lines on the other side of the circle and broke both lines about two feet from the handle.
Crashed a Parrot P-40 when I got a big time gust in the middle of the over head eights.
Maybe Brett will let me fly his Infinity >:D

Kevin - in case it was unclear, I plan on going to Alameda and bringing an airplane that you can fly (and possibly crash, but hopefully not) on Sunday morning. Come find me, the airplane is a yellow/blue Skyray 35 and will be probably be driving a black Porsche Cayman.

But certainly don't expect me at 7:00 AM, that's way too early for me. 9ish is more like it.

Hi Brett,  Yes, I was planning to be at Alameda.   I usually run in the morning, so I was not planning to be there until 9 or 10 either.   Don't worry about getting a plane ready for me (but I appreciate the offer).  I'll be happy just taking a ride over there to look at the field and watch.   Our beloved old 911 C2 is in Camarillo right now - otherwise I;d drive it there, but I may decide to ride my Kawasaki 650 - or drive my "plane car"  a grey Honda Odyssey :-)

Larry, you forgot to mention losing a flap off your Thunderbird at Alameda. I remember going home to get a piece of music wire to re-hinge it. Don't think you can blame that one on the field. Hopefully a lot of these problems will soon be behind us. Hope you do come out, be great to see you. And we never have done the Mortimore Memorial Get Together, so maybe the dedication of a repaved runway would be the right opportunity.

...and if you would like to meet many of the iconic personalities who have posted above with their game faces on make the short drive to Davis and find the Woodland-Davis MAC flying field  (WDARC(dot)ORG for directions) and attend 20th annual (yes guys, it's been that long) Ted Goyet Memorial Stunt Contest on August 26th and 27th. Leave the Aston Martin at home though, the road to the field has gotten a bit rough. PM me for details or ask just about any stunt flier at Alameda Sunday.   8)

Kevin I saw your "please don't bring a plane  ((for me to fly)) " note and that you would just like to watch and hang out....I am same timid way...very embarrassed by my lack of any skill .....especially relative to the experts  offering help

BUT ---I think what Brett is offering -----may be just exactly the only plane I would not be too intimidated by--- and let him show me all the basics again and take a turn at the handel

I suspect the SkyRay he is bringing is set up BBTU with a good engine and a plastic clunk tank so the flight time can be greatly reduced

I say go for it... short tanked and just some 2 to 3 min round round flights ----with you controlled roller coaster up n down to get your eye, hand, and leg coordination exercised...

I remember my return, and just actually flying for 2 min and a sort of controlled landing did a LOT to get me jazzed to do a little more

I am super jealous that the crowd in this thread has offered you to hang out with, fly with, and later BS with, some of the best guys there are in this hobby

Kevin... go fly Bret's SkyRay brother...I assure you it will be a blast ----and trust me... with that group ----they will not let you NOT have a grand time

If my wife was NOT out of town visiting east coast friend ( and me dog baby sitting) I would fly out to Gilroy, visit my sister...and interlope on the very fun planned meeting

We had a get-together with Kevin, Larry, myself, and the usual Alameda crew this morning. Kevin flew the Infamous Skyray, and did just fine, for his first flight since 1974. I knew he was going to be OK before he had gone a quarter of a lap, took off with no issues, up to about 10 feet smoothly and level thereafter. I took mercy on him and only put in 1/2 ounce of fuel, which was just about right. We also got Andrew to fly his first 35-sized airplane flight, also with the Infamous Skyray. I put in a few trim/demo flights on it, too, since I hadn't flown it for a few years now and made new lines for it yesterday,

Weather was excellent and a good time was had by all.

Thank you all for hosting me today !! It was an honor to meet you all.  Special thanks to Brett for his generosity in reintroducing me to the hobby and allowing me to fly his plane. I was a little nervous, but managed to keep it level and land safely...   I already have high hopes of building a competition plane and flying the pattern, but as usual, my enthusiasm is way ahead of my ability, so I am going to take it one step at a time.  First things first, be able to fly a full tank without getting dizzy :-)...  ( I don't remember ever getting dizzy but maybe that's because I'm now 57 and when I was flying I was 15 - I'm hoping that will go away with a little conditioning..)  Looking forward to flying again - and I'll probably also visit the Gilroy site with Larry as well once I have a model ready (which looks like it's going to be an electric clown - I have an ARF and I'm going to order an electric system for it.).

Larry, I am still thinking about that finish on your Chief . I have used silkspan and dope on models in the past, but I never got it looking better than nail polish on a stained class window.   That finish looked amazing.

Yes, like the cockroach, it will outlast us all. At least as long as Hot Stuff and packing tape exist.

Nothing you might even call a near miss, 4-5 people flew it, never even came close.

Well, good question, probably called away on business.  If Kim Jong Un happens to have an "accident" in the next few days, you can connect the dots for yourself.

Now that you mention it, I now recall that Uncle Bob was mysteriously "suddenly call away on business", that very same weekend that Bin Laden got whacked.
Indeed a "Man of Mystery "

Connecting those two events would be irresponsible speculation, as would the fact that you never see Patrick McGoohan and "Bob's Your Uncle" in the same place at the same time.

And you have to consider that the world of international intrigue is fundamentally based on *misdirection*.   For every crude and obvious James Bond type walking around in a Saville Row suit with a supermodel on his arm and a martini in his hand, drawing all the attention, that there is a John Drake "Bob's Your Uncle" type unobtrusively going about his business without a press agent and a movie scriptwriter in tow.

You don't walk into a terrorist camp dressed in a tuxedo.

Proof? No, but food for thought and grounds for further investigation.

I received an e-mail from Uncle Bob this afternoon. He apologized for missing out on Sunday and explained that he was suddenly called away on business.
A "Man of Mystery " indeed.

Update....Just ordered a electric power kit to complete my super clown in storage.   Somewhat mixed feelings with this decision as I miss the smell of burning caster oil - but I think it's a quick was to get in the air with what I have...never know, I might like electric.

Larry --- Thanks for your offer... I'll come bug you for lines once I'm ready.  Maybe we can fly in Gilroy too.
