Sunscreen!
« on: October 19, 2015, 06:52:41 PM »
Short answer:  USE IT!

Just home from my third skin cancer surgery.  This one on the side of the face.  Saw the photo of the excisions before the wound was sewn-up.

Until the healing is complete, it confirmed what many have long suspected: that I have a hole in my head.

Despite the above attempt at humor, skin cancer surgery is no fun (ask Leroy Black!).  Use that sunscreen!!!

Yeah, I had two removed the day after Labor Day, a Basal Cell Carcinoma in the left sideburn and a non-invasive melanoma at the top of my 12-pack abs. Going in for another look in November. They'd only remove two at a time with local anesthetic, but will do a flock of 'em if they do general anesthetic. Cheaper, I guess, not having to hire an anesthesiologist.  Well, that and the liability.

Anyway, I invested in one of these: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Buff_UV_Buffs/descpage-BUV.html  And started wearing it for flying sessions and fishing. I don't wear it into a 7-11!!!  ~~>  Steve

Besides protecting his skin, it greatly improves his looks.

All kidding aside, this is not a joking matter.  I stopped judging Stunt (after many enjoyable years) because I could no longer stand out in the sun all day without UV damage.

Please do yourselves a favor and use that sunscreen.  Skin cancer surgery is NOT fun!

Thank you Mike for posting this to remind us. I am often referred to in Muncie as the guy that wears all the sunblock & asked if I'm warm enough because on my long pants, long sleeves & brim hat.  I had one bought with Cancer & I'm here to tell anyone that is wasn't that much fun.

People always asked me if I was too hot wearing long sleeve shirts and big brim hats.   So far I have been lucky, guess growing upon a farm out in the sun working almost every day.  Also had heavy gloves while working the fields.

also make sure that the hat you wear is uv proof.  I lost a good friend to skin cancer - keen golfer bald since a teenager- when he was diagnosed he checked his golf hat and it wasn't!!
