Sunny California Flying
« on: January 04, 2010, 11:29:34 AM »
Guys we had a cool (52 deg.) at Alameda we had a Slow fly contest was a blast, Bi Slob won, but the guys had all kinds of diffrent Ideas like a foam combat wing for a fast combat with a 1/2 A mounted to it, a Chillie hot pepper wind sock at the tail of planes.
we also had regular flying and a BBQ

It was -2C with light snow this morning here in England with more snow forecast, and even lower temperatures, and I've had pneumonia over the Xmas period, so I didn't (couldn't) do anything but stay in the warm and feel sorry for myself! Fantastic!! :(   Never mind, worse things happen at the flying field HB~>

Yea, so far 2010 is a rain year. It's rained pretty much non-stop since new year's day. It's pounding right now. At least the temp is up. It's a whopping 45 degrees right now. Beats the 5 degrees that Doc's got, I guess, but I'm starting to grow moss.

And that is a very cool Avanti. I love that plane. Are there more pictures of it somewhere?

It sounds like the field is on Bay Farm Island where it was when I was a kid. I spent a little time there, never flew anything, just watched. I did see a mid-air between a combat wing and a seagull. The gull got the worst of it.y1 Glad someone had flying weather. It was about 4 degrees F here just South of Chicago.

So, Larry...did you get your engine shutoff squared away? If yes, what worked? :! Steve

Yes, the field is indeed on Bay Farm Island. I live about a mile or less away, also on Bay Farm, which is pretty close to having my own field. If you want a satellite photo search Google Earth or similar for the intersection of Doolittle Drive and Harbor Bay Parkway. Field is on the east side of Doolittle. We get an actual Zeppelin flying over the field at low altitude coming and going from Oakland North Field where it is based. Low flying geese are the biggest hazard, rising from the pond adjacent to the field. Larry's pictures date from yesterday, shirtsleeve weather here in harsh California. Got warmer today. Sorry.

Happy New Year  Steve

Yes the cut off works like it did when the plane was new, all it needed was a 50K mile service, clean & flush system, replace all fuel line and filter, replace plug and check all head bolts & back plate. I guess after 3 years some things have to be service. y1  #^ #^

Yes, "on such a winters day" here is the lone palm tree in my front yard waving its branches in the mild 69 deg. breeze.

As  nice as it is, I miss the NW too much so I am planning to be up there with gray skies and leafless trees so to be home again.  Even if its only for the week on buisness/pleasure.

Save a place for me at the flying circle, I'll be there for this week ends flying! #^

James,

Well, by the weekend, we are supposed to have a bit of clearing (we'll see, you know the weather people are constitutionally incapable of telling the truth). Right now we have classic drizzle and about 45 degrees.

Whoops, just checked the weather forecast again. Clearing on Thursday only then back to rain-drizzle-heavy fog-rain-showers-drizzle, etc. Normally, that will hold up until March, then we start getting wonderful Spring weather.

Rained a bit yesterday, but dry today and a balmy 56 degrees here in Beaverton. Walked the dog a minute ago, in a long sleeve shirt with the cuffs rolled up!  ;D

Overcast persists as usual, so we could have more rain at any time.  HB~>
