I didn't see anything saying it is a GMA engine.  Suppose I missed it.

"GMA Custom" is engraved on the head.

It either has a spare piston/liner or it has been removed? I guess the head alone could be worth $20 to many people.

Note that it says GMA ABC on the lug.  Chances are good it was converted by GMA and the spare parts are the stock parts that were removed.

That's exactly how George identified his ABC Fox 35s. At his request I had sourced these pieces in Russia. As our agreement included GMA having exclusive access to the parts I simply shipped entire lot (less a few pieces for my own use and with George's permission), he immediately sent me payment in full. It was always easy doing business with George...

what would the custom re-build include? I can tell the back cover plate is new. Did George also change the crankshaft or just balance it to cut down on the vibes?

Thanks, Rich

SWAG I suspect but do not remember for sure.  Blue printed timing to his specs for the best stunt run, crank re-balanced ,fitted & polished, ABC piston & cylinder, stuff-er back plate, sharp edges rounded for better gas flow, surface textured to better hold fuel charge. philips machine screws replaced, oil holes in each end of connecting rod.

I exchanged emails with GMA about buying an engine...early 1990s. He stated they were built from hand selected parts for best fit. Maybe he did major mods and didn't tell me but I didn't buy one because the impression was "hand fit only". Frank Bowman did engine work for GMA back then so he would probably know the details.

Other than installing ABC piston/cylinder sets I don't know the details of GMA's other mods or even if there were any. I do know he selected a tight fit on these ABC sets and then fitted them to his own specs.

As to balance of the engine, that was one of the issues meant to be dealt with in use of an aluminum piston. In my experience it surely helped although such is difficult to quantify.

I found some old, 1996, GMA paperwork. If you sent Geo your new Fox 35 he would customize it for $40.  For $60 you could buy just the ABC piston & liner.  His ABC custom engine was $110-120 range: his engine, ABC, his custom work, stuff-er backplate, no hemi-head, no muffler.
