Our last evening there, we had a FEAST with a couple that left 40 yrs ago for a visit and never returned.
He is an Outfitter and she owns an Electric Supply company. They had supper for us at their 3 story log home in the middle of 80 acres.

In all seriousness, Alaska is a dream for me. May make it in the next couple of years. A train or a ship. And then, maybe the ol' minivan.
My favorite town? Homer. How cool would it be to have Homer, AK as your address? Very. Unfortunately, they have no jobs for software types. I looked. Fishing. Not a pastime, but a way of living.

Homer has the world famous Homer Spit where a lot of the fishing boats hang out, and at the very end of the spit is a hotel named "Land's End". Several years ago, Ruby and I spent several nights there, and saw Ernest Borgnine eating at the hotel resturant. He was in Alaske visiting relatives.
Alaska is a wonderful place to go when it's hot down here in the lower 48. One year we went to the Alaska state fair in Wasilla. They sure grow some big vegetables up there.
We visited with the "Old Sourdough" in Anchorage. He passed on several years ago. He was a genuinely nice guy, and headed up the controline flying in Anchorage.

Hey Wes, make sure you stop by the chocolate factory in Anchorage, Alaska Wildberry when we were there they actually have a fountain of running chocolate when you first walk in.

Walter, my Choc-O-Meter went off the moment we exited the air terminal!
Found it, ate there, bought there, went back for seconds! LL~
Also found a neat 50's style extruded aluminum Diner with the best prices in town.
Food was GREAT!
Interesting...NEVER had a bad cup of coffee during our 10 day visit! #^

For those who don't remember "The Old Sourdough", his real name was Paul Eaton. OS used to add a little interest to his adventures by creating Alaskan-sounding town names like "Beer Can Cove", "Ruksackinmakyak", and "Halibut Guts". Whenever I read modeling and Alaska together, I remember him...even though I never met him in real life.

I've "talked" to Paul several times via E-MAIL.
Didn't realize Halibut had BOTH eyes on one side of their head nor grew so large.

So do the Fluke and the Flounder. From what I understand, the eyes are on each side when they are born and one moves over as they grow. I was told this...not sure if it's true.

Alaska is a place I have wanted to see for my whole life. Hope that I can get there.

My 20 months in Alaska taught me two things:
1. Avoid cold
2. Avoid cold
I haven't exactly followed my own advice, since here I am in beautiful downtown Oregon.
I was in Anchorage and Naknek. Just my luck that the 20 month span included two winters! Bad timing!

Well guys...
We flew into Anchorage and went to Denali and then south to Seward.
The port at Seward does not freeze over in the winter and the Military Resort there is very comfortable.
Rented a car for the 10 days so we could go at our own pace and "see all" & "do all".
That we did! LL~
Seward also has a small airport for you "Bush Pilots" out there.
Got many pics...just didn't want to pack the server.
Ready to go back! y1
