Seems like us in the stunt community really relate to the "names" that we know our favorites by. I think it's cool that we do this. Stuff like Palmer "Thunderbird" , Werwage" Ares" or McFarland "Shark 45"....we relate to it....right? Anyway I'm working on a plane and would like to call it "Showtime". Has anyone ever heard of someone using this name? I don't want to step on someone's toes.
BTW, I came up with this "silly" name at my first contest in 40 years when I jokingly said to the judges ..."Hey fellas,it's showtime!"....Cheers,PhillySkip

Well, just these guys that I know of. You can step on their toes if you wish.
-
I just 'searched' my immense collection of stunt photos, and didn't find a "Showtime". But I know there was one. I'm pretty sure it was in the UK, however, so I'd say to go for it. I like it. y1 Steve

I remember as a kid my uncle Irv had a workshop in the basement of his flower shop. It was in the 1950's A few of his pals would build models down there. They hung them from the pipes and floor joists. The ceiling was very low and I could see them in all of their glory. I was warned "No Touching" I smelled the Ambroid, the dope, the balsa dust and fell in love with model airplanes. In the "john" were well worn copies of Model Airplane News.I'd stare at the pictures and dream about seeing them fly. I'd hear the guys talking about their latest projects ,"The Chief", "Stuka Stunt","Smoothie","Nobler" "Zilch". My uncle Irv would ask me ....which one is this? I'd proudly say "That's an All American or that's a Barnstormer". The names were important. One day we all went to the field. My uncle had a beautiful "Chief" green and black with white pinstripping separating the black scallops from green base. Not sure of the engine, but I think it was a Torpedo 32.It had a green head.He wasn't a good flyer but he did manage to fly it without crashing. He told me one day when I can fly good enough he'd give it to me,and he did eventually. I was probably about 13 ,and by then that Chief had seen some "action". But it was mine.....I'll never forget that "Chief". Ain't model airplanes great??

No Showtime at all in Outerzone and they have a BUNCH of old plans.
-
I believe Bob Whitely used that name 15 or 20 years ago.
-
One thing is for sure, it would take some guts to roll in to the next contest with a plane named "Showtime". ;D
-
"Showtime" sure rings a bell. I know I've seen it on a stunter a number of years ago.
That being said, since it's hardly well known, I wouldn't hesitate to name your new plane Showtime.
-

Paul. Correct. It was a C/L version of the Bud Lite aerobatic Plane,
He had ShowTime on the plane, I believe the name was on the fuselage side.

That of course was the Showtime Laser, by southern California's grumpiest National Champion, Bob Whitely! 1989 NATS Concours winner It fit his approach and style perfectly. He's also one of the world's nicest guys, and although you might not immediately see it.
I love him like a brother!

It won't be the first time a name has been double-dipped in CL stunt. Shark. Stunt Master.
Not to worry unless you kit it or sell plans.
-
There are several duplicate names that are attached to different designs. ie. SKYLARK

If it bothers you, you could call it "Showtime II" or something on that order. How about Skip's Showtime?
-
Skip,
I like a guy with an imagination.
"Showtime" is a great name for a model. H^^
Sure beats ARGO.
Anyway, look up the font "Broadway." This font will work out quite well with your Showtime.

I know Bob Whitely well and fly with him often and often we just sit around and talk like the bunch of "Old Men" we are. I seriously doubt he would object to you using the name. He's often on this forum; Ask him!

Kinda like walking into a biker bar with your own cue stick.

My dad is building a new stunter, has a Stiletto fuse and Strega wing. Gonna call it Stilegra.

Thanks all to your replies and input on this ,I appreciate the feedback....PhillySkip

Showtime...hmmm I remember something about that name. But it's not related to stunt.
Showtime 100 was the aircraft Cunningham and Driscoll flew for their multiple (3) Mig shoot downs on May 10, 1972 during the Vietnam conflict. This would bring their tally to 5 and Ace status.

I recall there is a pretty recent aerobatic RC model sold as Showtime.

If you design a plane, you can call it anything you like! That's half the fun of designing; thinking of a clever name.
My favorite design-name was "KORO!" Ask anyone who served with military in Japan what KORO means! (it's really funny)

Floyd, don't keep us in suspense....what is the meaning?
-
I think Ken Bird (famous Canadian flyer) did a plane called Showtime a few years ago. Bruce Perry would remember.
-
I have a design I keep wanting to build. The name of it is "The Procrastinator". LL~
-
The last 3 stunt planes I built from my own designs were named below.
Miss Conception
Miss Take
Miss alignment.
None of them flew well at all!

I came up with some pretty good names long ago.
Names like, The New American, Flamingo, Brooklyn Bridge, Waste Paper Basket.
All good names. n~

Close Randy!
The name of the plane was Showdown and it was my take on what a PA .61 size piped Cobra would look like. Unfortunately, that plane was stolen shortly after I moved to Toronto in 1997 and never seen again :(

Hi All, How about.."Geezerpleezer"!

I just re-name the planes I build/fly/crash:

I looked up KORO on Wikipedia. Is their definition the one you meant?
-
Yes larry I believe it is--- and perhaps during certain maneuvers with an un/ill-trimmed plane and 10,000 hrs build time we can relate... at least I can

Love it. y1
Hey Phil, I'd build one.
-
"KORO". I actually read this in an edition of Atlantic Monthly magazine. I was in the public library, and I laughed so loud, people turned and looked. It HAD to be the name of my next model.
"Koro: The unreasonable fear that one's penis is shrinking."

Bob Whitely had the "Showtime". Won the Concourse with it, and placed 2nd at the Nats. I saw it when I was at his house in California. I believe Al Rabe may have beat him. Please feel free to step in with corrected facts.

One of the most unusual names used for a stunt ship was NOSTROMO. ~^ It was the space tug used in the movie "ALIEN" I built it in the late 1980's and was one of my best stunt planes powered by a ST/46. n~

After trying to learn 5' pullouts one day, I renamed my pancaked Nobler, in wide Sharpie: "Mista Loop." And added a crude illustration of a figure-9 for decoration.
With the same wide Sharpie, I later named my old ugly Cardinal, after I won 1st place Intermediate in a 14 kt breeze: "Wind Warrior."
