So, I'm trying to decide if I want to roll into Puyallup sometime on Saturday and get a motel, or if I want to roll out of here at 5:30AM to get there by 9:00 (See the stunt pilot fall asleep in the middle of his wingover!!).
Any recommendations for motels close to the action and not too expensive? I'm on a "Motel 6 and a flea collar" budget this year, although better is always -- better.

Found one. Apparently there's a dog show in Puyallup, so there's no lodging in town. Fortunately it's in the Seattle/Tacoma sprawl, so there was a cheap hotel about six miles away.

My drive is about an hour and a half or a bit more. Depends on traffic. Over the meadow and through the woods....

I'd seriously considered just driving up from Portland on Sunday morning. I just couldn't convince myself it was a good idea.

I need to see what tomorrow morning brings -- but I'm planning on getting out of here by 8:00. That'll get me there before noon, in time to register. Then I'll fly in profile tomorrow (and hope I remember what maneuvers I'm doing), and beginner's precision stunt on Sunday.

I've stayed at the Blue Spruce and another motel (edit: "Redwood") farther So. on Hwy. 7 in Parkland/Spanaway...I survived both, tho they're older, cheaper places. This was for Free Flight contests at Harts Lake Prairie, with early AM starts.
This weekend, I'll be commuting from Renton, about an hour. Starting time for a stunt contest is a lot more civilized, a plus! y1 Steve

Salem and Delta Park are both about an hour's drive for me, so I can just schlep on down. But it's three hours to both Seattle and Eugene, and I ain't gonna fly at 9:00AM after a three hour drive!!

Profile isn't scheduled to start until 2pm after OTS and Classic. Dave said last night that he planned on Profile being on the asphalt ramp, not the grass. Naps are allowed onsite!
I would suggest taking Canyon Rd. Southbound from Hwy. 512 to 176th, then take 176th Eastbound to Meridian. Thun Field is just N. of 176th, so you'd turn left at McD's, then right at the next light. Very few lights on Canyon and the traffic bombs right along. Meridian is a maze of stripmalls and heavy traffic. Not that much on Canyon once you're past the first light southbound. H^^ Steve

Since there's usually only one circle available (not counting the grass used for other stuff), I had planned on stopping off at TNF early tomorrow to get a couple of flights in to make sure I've got the minor problems worked out on my profile. Should roll in around 10 or 11am to Thun Field.

The event isn't scheduled to start until 2pm, but the flyer says that registration is from 8:00AM until noon. So they may or may not register me if I show up later and try to sweet-talk my way in, but I'll try to be polite and show up by noon!

There is a bit of a bottleneck just before the event starts. It helps us get the flight times drawn, scoresheets printed, and airplane weights recorded if you enter as early as possible. In this case, since we know you're coming, we can be ready.
