Stunt News Plans Question
« on: May 03, 2006, 04:09:28 PM »
"edited to say Trophy Trainer instead of All American Trainer"

Received my May/Jun issue of Stunt News a few days ago...My compliments to all involved in its publication.  It has been great reading.

Page 108 is a page plan of the "Typhoon" and there is also a building article buy Tim McTigue on the "Trophy Trainer."  My question is...Are the plans published and used in construction articles available through PAMPA Plans?  They don't appear in the PAMPA store or on the website.

Hi Tom,

It depends.  As to Tim's article, he was building a kit, IIRC.  As to the Typhoon and other "Classic" planes that Tom McClain is putting in, they may or may not still be available from the original magazines.

There have been actual Stunt News construction articles of planes not published elsewhere, and those plans are available through PAMPA products.

I have a couple hundered (or more) plans if you want to copy some.

I believe the original plan (!!) was to make the Trophy Trainer plans available through PAMPA Products but we haven't seen them yet.  I do not know the status of that arrangement.

The Typhoon by Dennis Adamisin is NOT one of our plans.  I am also looking at finding a set of these--I was going to ask Art about them.

I do not have the plans to the Trophy Trainer.

I have a copy of an article on the FAI team selections held in St Louis in 1969. This proves the Typhoon is Classic Legal. I also saw it fly at that time, since I was one of the judges.

Hi Thomas,

My bad on the "AA" reply.  I had been following Tim's build of
an AA Sr. a while back, and didn't/haven't set down and really looked through my new SN yet.  "Oldtimer's" disease I guess.

I have seen the original Typhoon plans offered *somewhere*!

Will have to dig around and find out where.

I sent you a PM.  x:

Tom, and all...

There are a few other ways to come up with complete full-size plans.

-- If the linework in the original magazine construction article is reasonably fine:

--   -- Determine the scale of that page plan and hit a well-eqipped copy shop for a copy enlarged to full size.  Generally, this is not a copyright violation, particularly if you contact the original printer and learn there are no more plans in stock. It is like making a working/backup copy of software so that you don't damage or corrupt the original media it came on. Just don't go trying to sell numerous copies at a profit!

--  --  TilePrint is an application that scales up a scanned image in computer memory and divides it into laser or ink-jet printer page 'tiles' - hence the name. A bit more tedious to piece them together, but nicely accurate in dimensions and edge-matching. Check Dave Fritzke's site for more about TilePrint.

For a working copy of the paste-up, check a local UPS Store for an inexpensive 100% copy to work with. The paste up is awkward.

Again, check first to see if someone holds a current copyright, and get it there if you find one.

You'll still do well with a 100% size working copy to spare the original.

Newly drawn CAD plans are great and prettier than many originals, but if anyone gets silly about authenticity, recreating the originally available plans should be convincing.

Thanks Lou,

I have access to a large scale plotter for printing plans but I downloaded the tile print anyway.  So everyone else knows if they go to the site for tile print they will download an evaluation copy.  If they like it and want full up capability it will $12.95.  Tile Print is a neat program and if you dont have a plotter it can get the job done.

Thanks again for the info Lou.

It appears that AMA plans service has the Adamisin CL Typhoon from AAM sept 70.

Curt;

The plans are done and should be in the next SN.  These plans were verified by Tom Lay against an existing Tom Warden built Trophy Trainer, and is signifigantly different from the one that was kitted in the early - mid 1990s.  Contact me directly as to the best format for you to get the plans, e.g. digits, hard copy, etc.  PAMPA will get the rights for distribution of the plans.

Walt Umland is going to kit the Trophy Trainer from the plans that I generated with the help of Tom Lay.  We are in the process of doing the parts layout in CAD for the laser cutter.

If this caused any confusion, my apologies.
