All I know is when Steve Fitton has to work on some Sundays while we are flying, we always call him during a flight  and let him listen to the engine running and let him know how much fun he is missing
Willis   ;D ;D >:D >:D y1
PS
Joey Mathison always calls while they are flying the jets or an FAI speed job. He also knows how to rub it in.

The first guy I remember hearing about was Bill Rich calling Randy Smith to coach him over the phone.

This was funny, maybe you had to be there.
I remember when I was trying to learn the full pattern I recorded it on my wifes recorder she used at work. It was about the size of a cell phone. I would hold it up to my ear and listen to the pattern sequence etc. One time when I finished a flight a spectator game up to me and said man you must be really be good to be able to talk on the phone and fly a pattern like that.....Grins

Jack Sheeks had some little walkie talkies and he offered to talk me through the pattern at an Old Time Stunt contest.  I was flying a Veco Chief with a Fox 35.  As I would finish one maneuver Jack would tell me what to do next.  When he told me to do vertical eights I asked him how many?  About that time I put the plane in vertically, making a figure nine.  Jacks reply was "do just one of those".

In England it is now illegal to talk on a hand held phone while driving a car. In a recent poll 30% of drivers admitted they still do. (and how many did not admit?). It's unbelievable how often you see drivers still doing this. Personally I don't see too much difference between talking on the phone and talking to your passenger, which fortunately is still legal. In an emergency you'd pretty soon drop the phone!

[I can remember the schedule o.k., the problem is remembering what was the last manoeuvre I just flew!].

After knowing Jacks sense of humor I know this is something he would say.

Here is a picture of my flying buddy Kreth. By the time I got my camera the called had ended and he was putting the phone back in his pocket.

Ive done it lots
I used to have to be on stand by for work quite a bit and they only call when you are busy.
cell phone and nextell both. its really anoying when you are flying for judges and the vibrate goes of in your pocket
pretty hard to ignore that without losing concentration.
at contest's i try to leave it in the pits when i fly most of the time.
i was flying after work one late afternoon and the boss called on the nextell and i had to talk to him while i was flying, he kept asking what the noise was, i thought it was a leaf blower i said.
was talking to my wife once when after a minute i said i have to go the engine just quit.
just another leash

Ah, the advantage of living in a "civilised" world. The number of times people drift left of center while driving in my direction has increased in direct proportion to the number of cells phones. Very unsettling when I'm on my motorcycle! Look as they go past and usually you'll find a cell phone stuck in their ear... I wish they had it stuck in another part of their anatomy! n1

"Let me tell you now"...If you're that "important" that you need to be talking on the phone at dinner in a restuarant, on the sidewalks, in the flying circle, etc. your should not be where you are but where you aren't!  mw~

Can you tell that cell phone abuse is a pet peeve?

I agree that no phone call is so important that it can't wait until you are free.  I tried to call home after leaving the flying field to see if I needed to stop and get something for dinner.  Almost ran off the road after dropping the phone.  Now I take nearest exit and stop to make call.  Otherwise Emmy calls while I drive.  DOC Holliday

I couldn't agree with you more Dick. I work in the Cellular industry, and the use of handsfree devices while driving has already been mandated in a few states already. It seems there is a connection in the case of right foot, hand, and the listening/speaking process that these motor skills cant live independently of each other while operating a motor vehicle.Such as when hearing someone's voice on the handset, the right foot stops working.
So that fixes that problem, by using handsfree, to some degree. The other problem is the driving dialer. They're a dangerous bunch too! Thats why most major cellular carriers offer voice command dialing as a standard feature.. So, everything is there to prevent stupidity on the hiways except for the consumers reading the instructions for their phones!!

Oh, and if Im flying, the phone stays in the truck! What makes that phone ring is one of the reasons why I'm out flying in the first place...... stress relief!
