Looks like my Christmas break will be spent traveling to Texas to visit my girlfriend's daughter, who had just bought a house last June in Katy, Texas. Because of hurricane Harvey, their brand new home was flooded. :-[
It has been in the process of being repaired, and my GF is driving from here in SoCal to there to deliver some "stuff" that she has collected for her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter....
I don't want her to drive out there alone, and so I am making the trip with her, instead of flying Stunt everyday out here with my buddies while I am off work. I believe that Katy, Texas is near Scobee Field, right? I am wondering if anyone will be flying stunt there between Dec 25 and Dec 29th, so I can at least WATCH some flying.
I'd bring my own plane but the car will be jam packed with donations and a 90lb Labradoodle (MY new best friend) so no room unfortunately.
If someone is going flying there, I would love to hang out and watch and shoot the breeze.
Please send me a PM or post here. ;) H^^
Seasons greetings,
Target, AKA Chris Behm

Be assured, if it isn't raining and the wind is under 18mph , Mark Troutman will make it to the field. If he knows you're coming he'll probably go anyway. He lives very close to the field and flies a lot.

Hi Chris
I'm sure some of us will be out during that time, unless the weather is really stinky. As Dan said, Mark Troutman is the closest to the field, he lives in Cinco Ranch, which is Katy and right behind the park. Mark flys every morning. I'm about an hour away south of town but I go up to fly frequently. Probably not the 25th, but maybe one of the other days you're here. Would like to meet you and talk airplanes. Call when you get to town 281-488-1371.

OK, sounds great guys I'll give an update here when we arrive.
I hope to help out with some of the cleanup process at their home, but I definitely want to sneak out a couple of mornings at least to visit the field, and hopefully see some flying.
I'll give you a call or Text when I get in to town, Frank.
We will probably roll in either the 24th or 25th, depends on the GF's work schedule.
The road trip should be an adventure; cross your fingers!
Respectfully,
Target

I will bet one beer that Mark would find a plane for you to fly.

That would be great, not at all needed, but if a beater was offered, I'd fly the stew out of that thing!
I've mastered (a stretch of the term) the beginner pattern, and starting to try triangles, the hourglass, and vertical 8s. No splinters yet, but my flying buddies like to make cracks about the shapes, lol.
Again, just looking forward to meeting a few of you guys and checking out the field. Anything else is icing on the cake!
Kind Regards,
Target

Hi, Frank-
Looks like tomorrow is a 20% chance of rain with about a 4mph wind....
Friday is 80% chance of rain.
What is the likelyhood that you or Mark will be up for some flying tomorrow??
No pressure!

Hi Chris
Sorry for the late response .... been out today.
I'll leave it to you and Mark in the morning .... too cold for me, plus its and hour drive for me up to the field.
Maybe Sat or Sun morning the temp should be better, if you are still intown, and it doesn't rain.

You are up one beer.
Met with Mark and Dale at the field and was treated to flying his Ringmaster. Plane flies great, me not so much, but i did manage two flights without incident.
Thanks for the hospitality, Mark!

Older* guys and hobbies... afflictions...pastimes.... passions
This thread is cool
I have quite a few hobbies/passions....
Model airplanes/cars/boats
Guns
Ham Radio
Motorcycles (Harley)
I used to travel a lot more than I do now
In the past, I have has people that do NOT really know me, let me play with their:
R/c and C/L Airplanes
Guns and expend their ammo
Radio room chatting around the world
Loaner Motorcycle....for a full week
Tether Cars
R/C Boats
* the older guys...note
I have been many places where I got treated exceptionally well just for having the same passion....but in the same areas I got to observe the behavior of our younger generation
They seem to NOT be willing to even share some prized base ball bat within their own team... just as one example

One of my fondest model airplane memories happened at that field. A few years ago, I attended my first stunt contest. It was the ringmaster round-up. Frank Williams and Carl Chapman judged as I flew intermediate. Joe Gilbert won the whole thing (imagine that) but he and I got to fly together in team pursuit. Mark Troutman flew Johnny Mac's tri engine ringmaster. I could go on about all the folks there, but the funny thing was, I was new and knew no one! It was one of my favorite memories so far!

Yes, Mark is super cool. I had fun with him and Dale, flying with them was one of the highlights of the trip.
