Good luck with the contest.  I hope it is a success.  I wish I could make it.
We of the Northern Utah Contingent are being represented by Jim Rhoades.

Take a lot of pictures!

Thanks for the well wishes Brent! I got to fly Speed with Jim last week, and stunt with him this week! He's certainly a threat for the top prize!

Boy Oh boy, it was a fun first day. OTS got both rounds through, and we began classic. The winds picked up and I had to call it. We tried to wait it out, so we broke for lunch. The wind did not slow down enough to be flyable. Tomorrow's forecast looks good again. Engines fire at 0800.

Here's Gary Gingrich piloting through a classic pattern before the wind.

It is a great open place to fly. I pulled up as classic started and met Dane and a few others. Starting the 3rd flight the wind started howling.
Good choice to call it quits.
I got video of Joey doing some wind flying.

Is the tripod with the can your wind meter?  Good place to do some free flight, too.

Dane thanks for putting this contest on. And thanks to all the support folks.
It was great meeting some of the guys from the west. They fed us both days. Grill master was great!

We got one round in this morning and the the start of second round the wind machine kick on. Never seen anything like it.
Wind shifted 180 degrees. Started blowing and the planes started turning in the pits.
I set my rental plane down and the tail will raised off the ground. No break in the wind just steady. Weird.

Thought it was supposed to warm in the desert?    Hate to hear of the wind putting a stop to things.  Thanks for the pics.

We were able to get through most everything. The only thing we skipped altogether was profile. But, there was only me and Joey signed up. I personally feel it was a great start to an annual contest.
I'll post the results in the events section also.
Until then, here's a gratuitous picture of Paul Taylor and Jose Medesto.

If that was an official I think he should have scored well.  With the mountains so far out in the distance how or what do you use for reference on level flight altitude?   Also I see some kind of structures of in the distance, wonder what they are.   Plus the site reminds me of some of the areas while driving through New Mexico of the big flat wet weather mud areas.  Maybe next year as the last time I drove across northern Arizona we almost got caught in a blizzard.  Lucky the snow wasn't building up on the highway as we were heading for Hoover Dam. H^^

Very Good .

Ive sent him a pm asking if he'd put something comprehensive on the Patternmaster History together . Comprehensive even .

Seems it wasnt a complete dog  LL~ and somewhat influential  through the 80s and on .

A timeline of the designs with some specification / dimensions / moments / areas - span ,
covering ALL the primary derivatives , would have it ' on paper ' for us others from elsewhere to note .

or has there been something in p a m p a at some stage .Figured the Cardinal 92 is the ' Tweener ' type ( Size ) Anyway .
at the Brothers Computor ( or my computor  :P at My Brothers , spent the night trawling 90's Windy tapes , on u tube .
Some pictures etc of various planes and derivatives , and a few of B. Jim Greenaway .

Sorry to go ' off thread ' but thought someon'd see it  , and twist his arm on this. or maybe Jose will see ' the Request ' .

Good flying site , finding the same spot or do you just go ' near enough ' out there  / Thanks for the pictures etc .  H^^

Thanks guys. Cool pic Matt! Jose is a wealth of knowledge. He was very fun to talk to. I have a GPS coordinate I use where I normally fly, but most anywhere out there is pretty good.

Doc, what you asked about a reference is a question that came up. As Jim Rhodes put it "you really need to fly it all the way to the ground". For the judges, it was awesome. The level laps are very level. Sounds funny, but there's nothing to throw your sights off. After a flight or 2 two, you get used to the bottomless bottoms. Lol
