Yeppers, I got the pleasure of meeting the famous shulzie this weekend. Got to show him the plans I have been workign on of his Classic Legal Avenger. and the Laser cut parts as well. Gotta say, I had a bit of a challanging weekend, it was great he kinda prodded me and helped me refocus abit to get back on the horse. It was fun talking to him. Thanks Shulzie bud!

I'm glad we finally pried Shultzie out of his Gig Harbor mansion and out to see the little people   LL~

It was great seeing him out. It was a really fun weekend. Congradulations to Paul, Howard and Bruce in Expert Stunt. Great flying. And Scott, sorry Leo forgot to move the fuel bottle. Could have been worse.

Rod Claus is officially kicked out of Intermeditate Stunt. He put in a really nice flight and is officially an Advanced flier. Congradulations to Rod.

Pete Peterson needs to build a new airplane. Sigh... The Sultan is beautiful, but the nose is in danger of falling off and he decided that discrestion is the better part of valor and judged on Sunday. Thanks Pete, you did a bang up job.

The weather was near perfect for this site. Very light wind not coming off the Spencer Aircraft building (for once) and moderate temps. Really terrific weekend. The judges did a good job throughout. A very dedicated and talented group. Thanks guys.   (PE**)

Shultzie and Mike Potter. Shultzie is the short guy. I had great time. I didn't fly very well  but did not crash and the only stupid thing I did was forget to move Scotts fuel jug. He said you never forget anything when you pit. Oh well it maybe means I am getting old or just not as sharp as I usually am. In any case the ride home was enjoyable. Thanks to all my friends for being there and especially Shultzie.

Thanks for all the suppport guys. This 'ole sandbagger' is going to have to go bottom feeding in advanced the rest of the flying season!!
We had a great turnout for this event. And,we couldn't have asked for better flying conditions, except for Saturdays late afternoon breezes.Mark did a great job in the wind on his second round flight.

It was a fine contest.  Turnout was good--a dozen in Expert-- , we recruited at least two new guys, and lots of people bought US team hats and T-shirts.

I thought Randy flew particularly well.  He was complaining about a trim issue, but it was too subtle for me to see.

We had wind poles at three places around the circle.  Often they pointed in different directions, but I had my usual contest luck and got perfect conditions for both my flights.  There were some starting and wingover-entry issues with my second flight, causing people to wonder why I wasn't wearing a clown suit, but I stabilized and came within 20 points of PW, which made it a good day.

It was good to see Don again.  He is not particularly short, by the way.  It's just that Mike Potter is large.  I tried to sell Mike a hat and shirt, but I didn't have any big enough.

Chris and Joan Cox flew down in their new RV and parked it next to the circle.  It's a really cool airplane.

I mean Rod, you flew great, its obvious that Pete has worked magic with you, dont worry I paid him to sabotage you from now on.
And thanks for noticing my adventure in the blender on Saturday, it was very ,, uh, challanging? I feel like now I should go fly kites with Shulzie after my overheads,, lol. It was a great deal to get Don's blessing on my plans for the Avenger and to meet him finally. Thanksk for the great contest guys,,

I had a great time and I appreciate all the guys who went down there Fri and set it up.(Steve H, Pete P, Rod C and Mike Potter).
In addition to Dave G ,who worked tirelessly and kept things together, I'd like to thank the judges. We had top notch guys working long hours, many who didn't fly. Steve H worked both days, Bob Parker, Bob Emmett, Paul W all put in a lot of time.
To those I missed, my apologies.

Amazing how a plane can look that good and fly that poorly. Sigh... It will be rack flying until I figure out what to do with it. On the other hand, the Slider did pretty well and I'm already deep into the fixes Paul recommended. Should be ready by this weekend if I can get the new line slider setup together.

Thanks for the pictures, Mark. I took some on Sunday, but haven't downloaded them yet.

I was kind of dissapointed that when he had his Carpal tunnel  surgery he didnt have them implant a microprocessor and handle at the same time, sheesh he could have been the new 6 million centavos stunt dude then! Alas they just tried to return use as before,, maybe we can get him going again, he sure looked like he fit in with all the "guys"!

I'll admit to being somewhat opposed to the site at Thun Field. It's just too tight to be really safe for long lines, it's too turbulent, and a person's flight can easily be ruined (if that's all, they're lucky!) by the propwash of a plane at the nearby gas island, or leaving the visitor's parking area (which is what we take over).

On the other hand, we's got two sponsors (Spencer Aircraft, purveyor of finest aircraft finishes and fillet materials,  but no Powermaster fuel...and The Hanger Inn, a very popular watering hole and chow emporium), a lot of spectators that like us, instead of whiners who bitch about the noise we make. Lots of folks hanging on the chainlink fence, asking questions...the ideal place for setting up the pits. Pretty good publicity, but maybe we need to approach the local news media about coverage. We could put Schultzie in charge of that... y1

I liked it a lot better NOT (quite) being on Father's Day weekend...we could actually get a seat and service in the Hanger Inn, for instance. The weather and wind directions we saw weren't perfect, but mostly reasonable, and the contest was a little bit like Stunt Heaven, with some seldom seen folks attending. Where the heck was John Leidle? I do wish I'd gotten to watch Rodney fly his way into Advanced... H^^ Steve

Steve,

Yea, I agree. I wish there was just a touch more room and the wind when it comes over Spencer can be something akin to flying in a washing machine. But last weekend it was pretty nice overall. Enough wind, mostly, to knock out your wake turbulence and decent temps (certainly better than last year). I got a couple of funny wooglies while flying, but overall, very decent. Like you, I like the location from a crowd perspective and having the chow hut right there is pretty nice. All and all, a very good contest.
