I'll admit to being somewhat opposed to the site at Thun Field. It's just too tight to be really safe for long lines, it's too turbulent, and a person's flight can
easily be ruined (if that's all, they're lucky!) by the propwash of a plane at the nearby gas island, or leaving the visitor's parking area (which is what we take over).
On the other hand, we's got two sponsors (Spencer Aircraft, purveyor of finest aircraft finishes and fillet materials, but no Powermaster fuel...and The Hanger Inn, a very popular watering hole and chow emporium), a lot of spectators that like us, instead of whiners who bitch about the noise we make. Lots of folks hanging on the chainlink fence, asking questions...the ideal place for setting up the pits. Pretty good publicity, but maybe we need to approach the local news media about coverage. We could put Schultzie in charge of that...
I liked it a lot better NOT (quite) being on Father's Day weekend...we could actually get a seat and service in the Hanger Inn, for instance. The weather and wind directions we saw weren't perfect, but mostly reasonable, and the contest was a little bit like Stunt Heaven, with some seldom seen folks attending. Where the heck was John Leidle? I do wish I'd gotten to watch Rodney fly his way into Advanced...
