Have no way to go flying as of now and this year.  I seen the ad on this quad copter.  The price looked right and I ordered two of them.  If only the manufacturers would realize some of their customers can't read that fine print.  The one part that had me was the auto stable button.  Thought it said rise to 5 meters.   So I never took it out side as it was usually windy.  On a whim I fired it up in the living room.   It is fun to fly it.  It takes off automatically to about 5 feet and hovers until you give it a command.  I now have a half dozen take offs and landings and the grand kids love it.  Oh and it is electric powered.  Two marks against me, RC and electric.  Can I now say I have a flight in this year.

How does it corner? Does it "lock in" after each turn? Line length? How does it handle the overheads?

Yeah Doc, you now have a flight in this year!  Truthfully, I've been thinking about doing the same thing for out in my 30 X 40 shop for while I'm waiting for stuff the cure.  Whaddayathink?

That is a lot more room than I have.   Wasn't for all the stuff hanging in the shop I could fly it there.

Oh there are no lines, it RC.  I control altitude with throttle and have not room to loop it even though there is a button for snap rolls.  The on board ic keeps it at a preset altitude until I give it control.  It is really simple if you ignore all the buttons.

You have to do 5 level laps a wingover and a loop to be considered a flight

Many years ago I got one of the dual main rotor helicopters to play with not on board stabilization or auto hover ....had some fun in my 15' wide, 15' tall 45' long RV cover that is converted to a shop all enclosed.

I few years back brother sent me a small 4 rotor toy drone with a LOT of built in software for a $29 dollar device...even connects to smart phone for  fixed video..no pan tilt zoom

Since I have bought 3 more similar dinky drones to play with in the shop auto hover and return to home buttons get used a LOT...great time wasters for the money

I really like how the Quads are able to take pictures and video from a very unique position that you wouldn't get otherwise.

Doc - Don't feel too bad I have been using RC equipment and electric power on the CL models for over 20 years now.

I've mentioned a time or 2 to my wife that a small electric copter or drone would be fun in the house. She has mentioned that an iron skillet upside my head might be fun a time or 2.

Wait until you get hooked on Tiny Whoop FPV racing.  I fly mine all throughout the house quite a bit.  Can't wait until the Xmas tree goes up and I can use that as a pylon.  Wife simply rolls her eyes.  Dogs typically hate them.

They race these things in bars and coffee shops.  Beware, operating the 5.8GHz video transmitter (VTX) requires a Ham radio license.  I got mine last spring.

Well I got my quad up today untilm the two grand kids wouldn't stay away.   They don't realize how sharp those little blades are.  Still trying to keep focussed on the lights for direction.   A challenge for this old man.   Having fun with it.

Like so many things these days, people ignore FCC requirements for a license.  For a short time, the FCC tried to license radio control (R/C) transmitters.  No one bothered, so the FCC decided that maybe that was another bad idea.  Amateur Radio (hams, to some) is another field where people don't bother with a license, knowing that the government doesn't have the facilities or the ambition to prosecute people without the required license.

The FCC Enforcement gang is and has been vigorously warning, fining, confiscating, and prosecuting violators ever since I have been a ARRL member

Of course they have to rely on a lot of ON air monitoring and from complaints of interference by licensed users

Now as relates to the licensed spectrum and band widths of First Person Video in small hobby drones, there is little to no perceptible interference. All the Commercial licensees and Amateur (HAM) users of that spectrum are not many, and in the case of HAMs, mostly use it in sophisticated packet technologies that are fairly immune to low Db interference.

   My first R/C set was an EK Logictrol LRB 4 channel brick system, and it came with an FCC license application for non-voice operation, circa 1975. At the same time, the CB radio craze hit the scene and required a license also for voice operation. Bothe were for 5 years and cost 25 bucks each!! I still have them some where around here. It was the CB craze that over whelmed the FCC> I remember reports at the time that they could not keep up with the crush of applications so the FCC eliminated the license. Then the radio and TV stations started to cry 'FOUL!" and that started a long court argument. The early remote TV systems for R/C airplanes required a license also due to the frequency they broadcast on. . I remember those because we used to sell the systems at the hobby shop I worked part time at. It's the "BADGES!!!?? WE DON"T NEED NOP STINKING BADGES!!" syndrome!
