Thought an update might prove interesting. The first contest of our season is this Saturday. The Strega ARC I lost on the 10th was going to be my contest plane for this year. Tonight I finished assembly of a Strega ARF. The lucky boxes were uncovered and glassed over. I installed an adjustable outboard trim tab. Same pushrods were used. I had bobbed the nose of the first one 3/4 inches to help balance the saito .72 at Windy's suggestion. It still took 1.5 oz in the tail so on this one I chopped 1 1/4 inches off the front. Landing gear transfered. Not as pretty, but its 4 days (well actually 2, I started on Saturday afternoon, worked on it 2 hours sunday morning and a few hours sunday evening after mom left, and 2 hours tonight. Same power system, same everything else except the smaller stock rudder vs the larger one I did on the ARC. I'll have several days of practice and tuning with it before Saturday. This is another good application for an arf, quick recovery. I'll change anything else I deem needed as the season progresses and if I'm happy with it all I'll do a scratch built one next winter. Hey, its only one season. I plan on being around for a few more. As for the uggly wheel pant attachment, they were temporary til I had time to bend up longer ones and they are expedient for this quick recovery, I'll do longer ones next week for flying off grass with 14 inch props. But I think I'll have to incorporate the gear doors, just for testamony reasons.
