Finally!....got out to fly. It has been weeks since I have had time this Summer due to my show schedule and rain when there was time.
Put a new prop on the Strega. Went from an APC 12.5x5 to a 13x4. Liking it! Enya .61 CXRS breaking in.
65' lines.
We had a nice night at the field but a couple of feller augered in!

A killer pep talk Shug.

A killer pep talk Shug.
Tom is in his third season and flying real well. He is placing in contests. As we watched him tear up the pattern...it was sad to see the line break and the plane go in.
Always lessons to be learned in this hobby.

Whhoooo Buddy indeed! Thanks for sharing. Could you explain your camera(s) set-up?

It is a Mobius action camera stuck to outboard wing https://www.mobius-actioncam.com (https://www.mobius-actioncam.com) using an sticky-back mount system just stuck on wing.

Saw you at the Wisconsin State Fair. I was the guy with the Hawaiian shirt.
Great time. hope all your gigs went well.

You are still the man Shug. H^^

Great view of the elevator, anyone notice how little movement was required during maneuvers?
Thanks Shug

Yes definitely noticed that. Did you notice how much more control is used on outside maneuvers versus the inside maneuvers in particular in the corners.
Loved the video.

Super cool!

That's what it looked like to me, too. Great video.

Ok, time for the amateur to chime in. What struck me watching that was to watch the control surfaces. I'm just learning about how much elevator travel you really need, etc. Recently I redid the controls on my Shoestring Stunter and realized a great increase in real maneuverability despite a noticeable reduction in elevator throw. Watching this video I don't think the control surfaces moved much more than 15-18 degrees. Far less than I would have thought they would.
Shug, your little bit of fun with the cameras was very informative for me. It wasn't just good entertainment, as always I might add, but it was a good lesson in what's really needed in proper control setup. Thanks!!

Actually I want to start to put cameras on board of my bird too to get some in flight information. Those cameras are a little pricey but might be worth the expense.
Gary you are absolutely right. there is a point where the elevator doesn't create any more extra force (up or down) and from that point on you are actually decreasing force and adding drag. This is my second step I want to test out after I sort out the CG position.

The Mobius Mini package is only $80.....https://www.mobius-actioncam.com/store/products/mobius-mini-standard-video-camera-package/ (https://www.mobius-actioncam.com/store/products/mobius-mini-standard-video-camera-package/)
Not bad I say.

I may mount the camera under the wing and just see if all that holds true or is it perspective.

Hey Dave! Oh, I remember that shirt.

Nice to see a airplane video Shug! Have you been to any contests lately?

None this year. Been a busy Summer for my show and that cut into contests and practice.

So, what's your divot fee?
Also (speaking of golf), we were talking about being able to get a Mulligan at our stunt contests. Phil Spillman got caught in a downpour during his flight at Eastern Shore contest and I told him that he should have yelled "Mulligan!" But then Jack, the CD, said it was $50 and had to be paid before the flight! Phil said that was too much to pay.
How we ever going to get better rules in PA if everytime I suggest one, people throw up roadblocks?? ;D
-
Excellent vomit-cam footage, as always.
Makes me think we won't see FPV control line flying anytime soon.
Would be interesting to see vomit-cam perspective of ribbon cut from two combat planes.

Totally great video, Shug. Enjoyed it all except the loss of a nice airplane by your friend. Would have been nice to have a "before" picture as it looked like nice...um....er...leftovers. Curious what ship it was?
Good comments by some guys who took advantage of the control movement view. Very instructive for them. Like a couple of them I was wondering if the ship requires noticeably greater input on outside maneuvers from the pilot? If so, are the hinge lines sealed? If not, doing so might help even out any asymmetry in input required to balance inside versus outside sizes. Just a thought.

It makes one also wonder if when the elevators are drooped intentionally into the build, and it effects lift symmetry because of flap travel.. does it have this visual effect on corner input requirements... personally, I think to a small extent the answer might be yes, but I also think people tend to pucker more on outsides and hit them harder. ;-)

It would...wish I did combat!

It was a Twister with your mods plus some. Tom bought it from a club member. It was/is a beaut.
My hinges are sealed. I think it is perspective as the camera is sitting up about 4 inches or so.

True....pucker and handle enthusiasm is jacked on outsides! I think it is perspective as the camera is sitting up about 4 inches or so.

Something I've been wondering, but I'm not good enough yet to try without the likelihood destroying my Mobeus in a crash. On the forward looking camera, instead of the camera facing straight forward, how would the picture look if the camera were faced, say, 15-20 degrees inboard, so it looks like you're looking into the turn, instead of looking straight forward while the plane turns and scenery pans in front of you?

Great Video Shug, thanks for sharing.
I've never experienced nausea with a big smile on my face until today.

we call it ' Motion Sickness ' . LL~ S?P
If you want to get really cunning , you could split a stick , like grafting . And fit it over the flap T E at the Fuse . ( & paint it dayglow red )
Then WE could SEE where the FLAPS WERE , in the manouvres . If your really considerate a felt marker & 10 degree increments marked
on the fuSELAGE SIDES ( OR 5 dEG. ) WOULD CALIBRATE IT .
Camera might need to be on the T Edge line tho ?? .
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you really want to upset their equilibrium ,
Mounting the camera out there ON the FLAP , so Its Moving , might do it .
A similar sized lump on the flaps other side , should even things up .
If we're going to get all aerodynamic .
