Strega ARF Flight...Three POVs
« on: October 09, 2016, 07:13:02 PM »
Well it is about time that I got some time to get out and spend some time in the sunshine as it was sublime to watch my Strega circle and climb. It felt mighty fine.
Been since early July that I have flown this plane and not had much time on it. My control line time has been nearly nil this Summer due to my road schedule.
Thankful for the work...but missed flying and hoping not to lose the motor skills that I have worked hard to earn. Not to mention all the glueing, re-building and sulking that goes with that:::::...)
We got moved to a new spot at our limited field and it was really nice. Felt good to be out there with Bob and John.
Thankee.
Shug

Notice your handle is not vertical in level flight, and looks like you are needing max wrist deflection on outsides.  Resetting handle neutral would help with that.  Will feel uncomfortable at first but once you are use to it your inputs for in and out maneuvers will be more balanced.

Hi Shug,
I also advocate what Alan says about your handle's neutral position. I did fairly well with the forward neutral for a while but when I had just moved up to Expert and started flying at the Nats in Open, Ted Fancher suggested I fly with a vertical handle neutral to get rid of my complaints about needing a "faster" outside turn. It was an epiphany. My scores went way up and confidence followed. It is a well known technique and works wonders especially with the big models where large control movements are required.
Good luck,
Chris...

I thought you looked good Shug!     For not flying all summer your intersections were pretty darn close!    That wall in the back ground must be a trick on a windy day..    Give us more...

Good to see you back Shug. I'm working on an ARC Strega at present. If I may ask....what length lines are you using C/L to C/L? What was the weight of your Strega? How far from the flap hinge line did your plane balance? I bought this ARC second hand and got no instructions. Any suggestions that might help....Thanks,PhillySkip

At this point I am just doing what feels comfortable but will take it under consideration for future as I work on the 113 things other flyers have suggested:::::!

Duly noted and will for certain take this advice under advisment. I am getting to the point where I can actually spend some brain energy in handle thoughts.

Thanks Mike...I felt sloppy but not too bad for all the time off. I flew a lot of different planes in my short flying time this summer. Next year will focus on one plane! Maybe this one?....still working on that....

Here is some info that I posted on this site.....http://stunthanger.com/smf/arf's/strega-arf-put-together-at-last/
and  http://stunthanger.com/smf/arf's/first-full-pattern-on-strega/

Right now 64' lines. I will go longer next flight as engine is breaking in. Plane balances about 7 1/4 from hinge line.
Weighs 72 ounces.

Hi Shug
I'm glad to see you finally getting some handle time with the Strega. I bet that brick wall makes for some interesting turbulence when the wind blows over it. You're looking pretty relaxed going through your motions, and the big planes sure look graceful flying the pattern. Thanks for keeping us updated.

See you again one of these days,
Rusty
