Hi guys, I was looking thru some of the plans for 40 size engines and ran across this plane. Its a cool looking plane bye the picture. Not sure what size she is but looks like around 55 to 58???? I couldn't even find the name of the designer, nice paint job, just pretty. I would appreciate any input, how she flys, size of the ship, any history anyone can remember. Thank you for your input. After reading the article I can see why I like the plane. The design was inspired bye No Other Than The Famous Mr. Les Who, Ha Ha. Everyone knows Les. I'm curious so I'm going to send away for a copy of the plan, hope it has the tip and root rib but if it doesn't I bet Les's wing would look good in it. Does the word Stilomag mean Stiletto in a different language?????I appreciate everyones input, Gary

Yves makes the most exquisite scratch built repro and o.d. motors, from his own castings up.
I have seen his fixed head 5cc Micron repro coughing and spluttering its way right through the full stunt schedule in a non flapped vintage design. I think that's how they ran, so quite authentic.

This isn't Ynes Stilomag, I had a score plane given to me and the factory fuse came apart in air so I ended up playing around and build a Stiletto Fuse for her. Should I call her Stiloscore?????? Ha Ha I don't think so Les might shoot me. I contacted Yves on facebook and after a few conversation he send me a plan of his famous Stilomag. Yves is a very nice person to talk with on facebook and what a nice present he gave me. I told him I was ordering his plan from AMA and he told me not to, a plan is on the way to your home. The project I'm working on (Score, what ever) is getting close, somemore frame work, sand, sand, sand and fillets. Than the finish will start, if you look close you will see the engine cowl completed. It came from my Stiletto, I have made three different engine cowls for the different engines I use in her. I still have to make another, cause I've changed my Stiletto to electric and I love it. If nothing else maybe this will make you feel better towards your project. I believe she'll look better after I finish her. Some have asked aren't you going to recover the wings???? Nah, wouldn't get many points for her anyway. I just hope she flys well, I'm not a score fan, most of the score I've seen didn't fly as well as other plane. The score seems to have good numbers????? Oh well what works for some other can't figure out, Gary

Had to send this picture also, could have done it up there but I didn't. If the first one didn't make ya sick maybe I'll get ya with this one. She might look okay if I get the fuse to match color scheme with the wings????? It makes it nice when ya can leave your plane and come back later and no one gets near them, Ha Ha. I'm going to use leather fillets on this one, just for fun and I have the material. I have to talk Mr. Norm Gayer into helping me do that, he's does a great job with the leather and the rest of the plane. (He's got the magic touch) I might make a different landing gear for her?????? First I have to get enough paint on her to see if she's worth finishing?????? The Golden State Contest is coming up at the end of the year and I wonder if a person could fly three different aircrafts (all different type Stiletto's) in a contest, three different entries, fly against yourself, Ha Ha. What the hick up doc I can't fly worth a toot anyway, I wouldn't come in last, cause I could mark off my last plane, Ha Ha. Hey!!! Don't get serious on me, I would do it, Gary

She shoud look a lot better when you have her all dressed out. Hey it is your plane. Something you came up with. Your the only one who has to be pleased. The judges should only be looking at the flight pattern not the looks of the plane like some I know. Hope she flies well for ya. H^^

Hi, give me a few weeks and I'll post the frame work of mine???????? (Probably won't be correct but maybe close????) Tomorrow going to have some extra plan made off of the plotter and I'll take a picture of the plan and post it. Don't want to do it now cause the plan is folded and I'm afraid it might tear??????

Ward I believe some would like to read the article, it would be nice if ya would post it. I've tried to show both plans the Stilomag and Stiletto. I believe the wings to be very close, the fuse I think Yves said he was inspired bye a Gerard Billon. Check both plans and let me know your opinion. I'm going to build the Stilomag just cause I love the Stiletto. My brother wants me to build this plane totally for electric. I haven't decided which way to go, both systems works very well and this plane was developed around 1979. Hope ya can read the plans and I would appreciate any input.

I can't put my finger on it, but I like the Stilomag. It looks a little shorter and deeper than the Stiletto. Have you noticed how much better the new copies look. H^^

Thank you Ward for posting the article. To me this plane takes on the looks of several planes I like. The wing does look like the Stiletto, the fuse, to me, takes on the looks of the Shark 45???? Then when ya look the plan over, could mention a few other planes it takes the look of but each sees a little different. I believe she is a great plane and not sure but I don't think there is many of these planes flying at all the contest. I was surprised that Yves didn't use a ST 46 in this baby, if ya read the article you'll see what engine he used. Maybe in France this was the engine to use at the time. I have several different engines that will work with this baby, just can't make up my mind. I have a Rossi 40 that needs a home, she powerful, not sure she can be tamed but Rossi told me it would run well as a stunt engine!!!!(Of coarse they forgot to mention you would be flying around a million miles an hour??????) The Merco 49 lite case engine just purrs like a kitten. Super Tigre 51 can be a Wild Child and yes the Famous Tigre 46 needs a home, she is even brand new. Decision, decision, decision. Don't forget electric that would be great also????? My wife told me I needed another plane like I needed a hole in my head. I told her what the heck I ride bikes!!!!!!! Would appreciate your input, Gary (I forgot I have a few OS 46 SF engines)

The HP .40 is probably one of the most misunderstood engines of all time. I was working for Randy when he built many of these for Billy, Bobby, and many other secretive types. Power to weight it can't be beat. With mods it even gets better. Call Randy!!!

Hi guys,
My Score-letto is getting very close to being done. I made a seven ounce tank for her. So today my son and I started the break in on the Merco 61 Square Bottom. After several tanks we ended up using 15/20 with a 12/6 Brodak Prop. Fuel usage is five ounces for five minutes thirty nine seconds I haven't pressured this system and shes working great. Its a great running baby, RS is scribed in the back plate, I asked Randy about it and he told me he didn't remember marking the Merco engines he worked on. I want to run her somemore on the test stand before we take her for a ride. As soon as I shoot the first coat of paint I'm going to start the Stilomag, can't wait. Gary (I'm cheating I have the stab cut out and glued together and shaped)

Remember as the engine breaks in you will get better milage. Have many great flights with it. H^^

Here's a picture of the real thing, Ynes has posted his Stilomag on facebook. I believe she's a great looking plane and I will have one this coming year. Ya just can't beat the Stiletto Wing, the design looks like a winner to me and I believe the plane should qualify for a lot of different type contest. With the newer type engines and control systems I believe it will improve the perforance of this baby. My Score-letto is getting very close, maybe this weekend we'll give her a test flight. I always test flight a plane before I finish her, don't know why but thats just the way it is. I hope you enjoy the picture as much as I did.

Well, she not done but good enough to make a trip to the field. Don't know why???? but I always make a plane show me what she's got before I finish her????? Instead of Score-letto, maybe I should call her Mr. Plain Jane at the moment????? The base white isn't complete, I still see items I don't like but I'll get there, Maybe????? If ya look close you can see the great Merco setting there. Not going to run pressure on her, she seems to like to run the old way, (Balls Out), Ha Ha just kidding. She runs great, nice 4/2/4. I believe she broke in enough to make a few laps. At the moment she's using about an ounce per minute and I've installed a seven ounce tank????? She seems to like wild cat 15% nitro with 20% half and half oil mix. I was afraid she was going to rip out my stooge. When I would push the elevator to up the wheels would leave the ground, Ha Ha. I'm really looking forward to a great ride tomorrow, wish ya could see her????? Gary

I like the looks of the plane. But, I see something in the back ground that bothers me. I was always told to never let fuel jugs sit on cement/concrete floors. Was told to put a board under the jugs. They said the jugs would draw moisture into the fuel. This was after I had a jug of fuel that went bad on me. Also see another plane in the back ground. H^^

You're correct, fuel should not be on concrete. My son and I was testing different fuels, props, run times. Sometimes I get way to much junk out and after I'm thru playing, its a lot of work putting all my junk away. The plane in the background is one that was given to me and I need to get it ready for any new fliers that wants to crash a plane. I wasn't able to go to the field today, stupid dentist appointment but I hope tomorrow will be a different story. My son and I ran the Merco a few more times, just wasting fuel. I've never had a plane, when on the ground, you push the elevator to up position, the plane leaves the ground, hope this is a good thing. I bench trimmed everything I could think of, even the vertical hanging trick and everything seems fine. I believe once she's in the air the truth will come out. Today was the day, she did a great job. She flew more like the stiletto than the score. Very nice corners, good lap time, great engine runs. Hang on guys you're not going to believe this my wife went to the field with me and held the plane. After watching me fly this baby she told me I was crazy to make that poor plane do all them crazy moves. She said whats wrong with you guys, you work on these toys till there is blood coming out of your fingers and then you fly them like there is no tomorrow. I told her now you know why grown men cry?????? Ha Ha!!!! We had a ball, yes I had to buy her lunch???? (Was going to anyway!!!!) Anyway I'm going to try and get a better paint scheme on her, cause I believe at the moment she'll be bye my side at the Golden State Contest, (if she lives long enough). Gary

Hi Mike,
It sure can be, first the fuse let go, bad glue joints from factory. The Score-letto was doing a great job for me, wish I had tore all the covering and used real glue, (probably wouldn't have removed the planking so the same would have happened), lost the bellcrank the other day. There's nothing left of Mr. Score-letto but the pictures. I've decided not to have anything to do with the arf planes, they say that they're using better glue in the new arf's and most of the arf's look good, just bothers me that they use such a poor glue method??? I'm glad I didn't finish painting her but not sorry I got to play with her. I've found that a lot of the control horns on the arf's are not made very well. I guess ya get what ya pay for. Hope you can make it to brothers house for the contest, He'll cook tube steaks for ya, Gary

We have had a couple of ARF's let various control parts "go" while (very momentarily) flying thereafter. I agree that ARF's are not what they are supposed to be. If you have to buy and then rebuild to get some reliability, why not build from the ground up and save the frustration and do it right the first time.
