I went to the Hobby Shop to buy some 1/64 plywood and I looked at it was 51.99 for 12 x 48 I kept looking through the rack and found 2 pieces marked 33.99. I bought them both.
What BS it was 101.00 for 2 rolls of sandpaper and 1 piece of 1/2 x 4 x 36 and the 2 sheets of plywood. Its no wonder why people are buying ARFS.

I like to support my local hobby shop but for some things I just CANNOT afford to buy them there. It is sad but true that internet sales are killing some local shops.

Try Hobby Lobby, if you have one close by - they have a fairly good selection of various building stuff. Ed

And the guy running the hobby shop still cannot buy the baby any shoes.

Call Bob Hunt and scarf up his "rejected" wood....it's probably better than any you've seen....

Sparky,
You could have purchased a 48" X 48" piece of 1/64" ply from Aircraft Spruce for $55.75. They would cut it down to 12" X 48" for you for shipping purposes. I have had them cut ply down to "modeler" sizes before for no cost. The would be about $15 a sheet. This is another reason I gave up on the LHS a long time ago. Isn't ACS one of your advertisers? We need a link to all of the Stunthangar.com advertisers so we can support them. If there is one, I can't find it.

I needed it NOW and I didn't need good balsa wood for a mold.

I can somewhat relate to that feeling.
I received my gallon of Randolph thinner today from Wicks, my first ever order with them. One gallon of thinner on the order, nothing else. $42.75 for the gallon I felt was fair these days. Then I continued down the invoice and saw the $19.78 shipping charge!!!
Ouch. :(

About 17 bucks

How come it doesn't show up on the first link? It is amazing how the LHS keep upping the prices on the stuff we use. Even the glue is getting out of site.

I was told by somebody, can't remember who, that there is only one maker/supplier of the aircraft grade plywood left. That would explain the stupid price for it. I noticed it last year. If you find some cheaper at a hobby retailer it's likely old stock.

I have worked in a hobby shop for over 22 years. Just for fun, I looked up the price of 1/64 ply. The prices mentioned in this thread are consistent with what is available to dealers. True, there are places to buy it direct for less, but typically the dealers don't get any discounts from those vendors. I can't fault anyone for wanting to pay as little as possible, but remember the hobby shop prices are usually set by the manufacturers or vendors, not the stores.

I have no problem with someone making a profit that is fair and reasonable 33% but this is way out of line when you can get the same wood the same size for 15.00 Seems like someone is trying to go to Acapulco on one sale.

In this case the someone is either the manufacturer or the wholesaler. Rich hobby shop owners are about as prevalent as Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster.
