Title: Stick Models
Post by: steve pagano on August 17, 2007, 10:54:31 PM
Any one have experience with stick models like the ones from guillows? I am still working on the planes for my ''wraith'' project and would like to have a little bit of a stick model look. Mostly on the rudder and on the fuse, but only from the trailing edge back.

would something like this work and not have the fuse break in half with the flip of the prop?

I'm thinking of taking the 1/8 inch balsa fuse sides and cutting out triangles to give it a geodetic look like some builders do on profiles but instead of putting 1/16 on the sides of the fuse like a profile, I was thinking of just running the 1/32 or 1/16 ply doublers on the inside on the fuse full length for strength.

                                     Any thoughts?

Hi Steve,
Several planes over the years have done that look but the one that looked the most like an overgrown Gillows kit was Scott Bairs "Stuntfire that was a 60 size plane and used a hoss ST-60. I saw this plane fly and it was very impressive. It was published in Model Aviation I think in the mid 80's.
I would have to track it down.  You might try the AMA for the archives to pull up the article. It might give you an idea of what is possible for your own plane.
                                                       Good luck,
                                                                       Pat Robinson

The Joker OTS has the fuselage built up out of sticks.  So does at least one of the Zilches.  In case you want to go that direction. There are several British designs also.
