I contacted Tod Lee who worked with John Davis and the AMA museum to document the 1960 Argus and Tod was gracious to send me the plans of the original plane.
I built mine for an eBay OS-40FP with a composite XOAR 11x5 2 blade propeller at 48 oz. Superb stunt ship. I have almost 40 flights on it now.

Tom, you have some seriously nice planes in your collection....Gene

Hi Tom, I'm very happy that you chose Steve's "pond slime green" color for your Argus. Very appropriate, and I know he would approve. What a loss to stunt when he left us so prematurely.

Actually the color is Cadillac Emerald Green.

Hi Tom,
Is your Argus from the magazine plans (Aug 61, American Modeler), or is it like the Argus Steve Wooley took to the World Championships in 1960? The magazine plans showed straight flaps, the pictures show swept forward flaps.
Nice job on a great looking airplane. 500 sq in. How much does yours weigh? Steve Wooley used a Fox .29.

Steve always had that little twinkle in his eye when he told us what color it was. I think he mixed the color just for that reason. Cadillac came really close, didn't they?

I did build one from the American Modeler plans, but it was a faithful rendition of the 1960 Argus flown by Steve in the Worlds. I got my plans from Tod Lee that were drawn up by John Davis from the original aircraft which now resides at the AMA Museum. See the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZYhW59RXgY
Mine is a reproduction of the Worlds plane and weighs 48 oz. It does have forward swept flaps. The area is approximately 570 inches square.

Tom,
The Argus is one of the most beautiful stunt models ever built. And of course, I love its' bigger
brother, the Cobra. Steve did a terrific job with the design, building, and painting of his planes.
And Tom, you did a superb job of replicating Steve's effort. I would have loved to watch over
your shoulder as you did the masking.....just amazing !!
Good job.
Cheers.

Masking was an effort. And it is not perfect but it sure is pretty.
