I am building a Sterling kit F-51. I am missing the small balsa pieces that go between the leading edge and the fuselage. They are triangles and I believe 1/8" thick. Can someone please post the dimensions of these little buggers? I appreciate your help.

Charles, while your in search of the size of these they're left off the model most of the time. The Yak-9 has a similar detail and they break off when the gear flexes.

Really not needed. They are there for looks and to simulate the land gear bay. Hardly any one uses them. But if you want to add them. You can eye ball the plans, easy to make. Mainly for looks.

I used those pieces on my S-3 Yak-9. It has been flying with a Fox .35 stunt and I have had no trouble with them at all. I liked their looks when installed. D>K H^^

If memory serves (from 1953?) those "cuffs" were from 1/8" balsa, about 3" long by about 3/4" deep. They do help that design look more like a P-51.

I think they probably would look nice, but being a kind of utility guy, and like to have profile gear removal, I left them off. The tank covers most of the one anyway.

Nice looking. I've built many of them & Yaks. They are fun to build and fly.

Thanks for all the help. That's a great looking plane. I an still conflicted. I may still add them but make them out of 1/8" plywood.

Hi Charles, You may want to consider using leather fillets on this plane as they tend to extend the lives of most profile plane a great deal! I've used them since the mid-'60's with great success. Simply soak them in water for 15 min. or so and then apply with epoxy glue. Once soaked they'll go around leading edges without any buckling.
