Need Help Posting Pictures
« on: January 18, 2017, 10:53:43 AM »
I have been reading StuntHanger for quite a while, but only registered this week.  I have tried to generate a post with a picture included but I can't seem to get it to work.  I have not actually submitted the post, only previewed it.  The text appears in the preview window OK, but there is no indication of the picture I attempted to attach.  The picture is a jPEG and is less than 30K in size.  Ultimately, I would like to post several pictures in the post embedded within the text.  Can someone help me.

Sometimes the preview function doesn't work quite right.  For instance, I have a picture attached to this message, and it's not showing up in the preview.  I suspect that the preview is more there in case you're getting fancy and you want to see if you're getting what you think you are.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Thanks Tim.  Your picture is at the end of the post.  If it is possible, how can a picture be embedded within the posted text??

You can only link to pictures that are already on the web.  First, get the address of an image of something you want to post (with most browsers you right-click, and then when a menu pops up you click on "image address" or "get image address" or something like that).  There's a double row of buttons underneath the subject line.  The fourth one from the left on the bottom row looks like this: .  It's right below the one that looks like this: .  Click it.  Your cursor will be in the right spot for you to copy the image address in.  Your text should look like the picture below.

Tim,

Forgive me for being slow.  Although I have been around computers and programming for over 40 years, when it comes to the internet and web stuff I am severely technically challenged.

If I understand correctly, you are saying that any picture which I have taken (photograph), that I want to use within the text, must already be located on a website somewhere on the internet?  In other words, I can't simply upload the picture to Stunthanger from my computer as I am generating the post and have it appear within the message.  It will appear only at the end.

I think that is correct.  go to   http://stunthanger.com/smf/open-forum/oriental-fun-project/   and click on the picture located within the text.  It's hosted at a cite called photobucket.

I link to photobucket but my pics come out full size in the post. How do you get the smaller pics that expand when you click them?

When you post, right below the edit screen into which you type there's a link that says "Additional Options".  Click on that.  The bottom item on the menu that appears is the interface to attach pictures.  Click "browse", find the file on your computer, and click "open".  The file will be automatically uploaded.

No problem.  Yes, you can either upload and have it show at the bottom, or you can link to an existing picture.

However -- Stunthanger does host a photo gallery.  There's a tab in the upper right corner of the site.  You could upload pictures to there, and then link to those pictures in your text.

Personally, I think that for the most part, putting text above and pictures below works well -- you're not writing magazine articles, after all.  However, if you want them to be in the text, then by all means do it that way.

Do what Tim said if your pictures are on your computer or phone. No need to have an outside link if they are on your hard drive or phone.

Yes get img.address and use the picture button and place address between code. Hit quote this post to see example of code.

So, which way is better for Stunthanger? I just tried it from my computer and it's much easier. Photobucket has been a nightmare lately.

MM

There's trade-offs, whichever way you do it. If you put the picture files on Stunt Hangar, then they eat up bandwidth, and Sparky has to come up with more dinero. If you link to pictures on another website, like Photo Bucket, and they go away because your bucket has overflowed 4 years down the road and you decide it's not important anymore to have that photo in there, then the space-time continuum at Stunt Hanger has been violated and readers who use "search" and find that thread will be displeased, as the pictures will not be view-able.

I don't know how Sparky feels about this, but Leonard Neuman is very much in favor of actually posting the pictures on SSW, so they would always be there. Unless the server crashed or was hacked, of course.  D>K Steve
