I shouldn't comment on the price... You should see my turbine scale Erickson sky crane.... Ouch!
In fact, my hirobo ssz-5 cost more to build than the one you mentioned Charles! You're right. RC guys are kinda silly!

Dane,

Many of CFC Graphics customers are modelers that spend thousands of dollars on models. Some graphics/masks for these large scale Warbirds cost in excess of 400.00 and up.

The interesting thing is, even though I am a modeler, I elected to put my real money into full size aircraft and ratings. Many of these guys couldn't care less about GA, and so few are pilots. Well, pilots of actual aircraft.

They are happy to just have their models.

NBAT.

Nothing bad about that. Good for them and good for me too.  ;D

Dane! Good for you also.  H^^  LL~

Got photos?

At my field a couple of years ago some people from out of town wrecked a turbine prop plane that was near 10K.  It was a total loss too.   They had two of the same plane.  The other one flew and sounded like the real thing.

The club made our runway, 1200' to accommodate jets.

Yestereday a guy landed a experimental twin engine plane on the r/c runway and gave a couple of guys rides.  He is a Jet Blue captain.  The plane had 2 Rotax 912 engines and would break ground in about 200'.  It is a high wing with open cockpit.

Like one of these bad boys?

I've seen jet model with well over 20K price tags. The point is that it is their money and they have the privilege of spending at as they want. At my old flying field when they had jet meets Mercedes Benz  4 wheel vehicles are as common as a Chevy Suburban. One of the club members has a full tractor trailer rig with the trailer set up for living quarters and a space for his 4 jets, workshop and his quad vehicle to get around. The finish of that rig has to be seen to appreciate it. It is not a work vehicle, rather it is one of his 'toys'. about 300k or more worth of toy.
Those that are into R/C seriously are as passionate about their sport as us. They are not hesitant to spend their funds in the pursuit of their passions.
The only difference is that C/L is a modest investment in a hobby. Regardless of cost it is the enjoyment that you perceive from you effort and expenditure that really counts.
