Stab thickness
« on: December 02, 2012, 07:13:48 PM »
I'm not sure if this should go in the Building Forum or not, but I'm building a Junar for the 2013 season (with electric power) and am ready to lay out the stab and wonder if 3/4" at the root is necessary, is this for strength?  I'm wondering this after building several other 60 size planes that had thinners stabs (Randy's Tempest, a Legacy and others).

Thanks,

James

James,
I don't believe Billy did that for strength. I have had thicker stabs in the past and it was to increase their stiffness. I am sure Billy did it for aerodynamic considerations. If I were building a Junar, I would build it per his plans. Thick stab, that is!
