Disney"s "Planes"
« on: August 10, 2013, 03:57:35 PM »
I just got home from watching Disney's new 3D movie "Planes." If you have kids, grand-kids, nieces and nephews, or a neighbor's kid, Take them to go see it. Even if you don't, go see it by yourself. Anyone deeply associated with aviation will absolutely enjoy the movie. The attention to detail is remarkable...clear down to a carbon fiber, "contra" rotating propeller. It does have its "impossible to do that" stuff in it, but in no way does it detract from the over all plot of the movie. The movie stresses several "moralistic lessons," but I'll let the individual find those for themselves. The best part? My three grandsons talked about it the whole way home and I wondered...how many boys and girls will get some, overdue "aviation inspiration?"
Do yourself a favor...go see it.  H^^

My wife and I just came back less than an hour ago from seeing this movie out here in CA.  We saw it in 3D as well.  As Norm stated there is a lot of detail in the movie as well.  Hamilton-Standard decals on the props, mentioning P&W PT6A turbines and fuel control units.  The main advesary looks like John Sharp's Nemisis NXT racer to me.  It is a good story but I think the detail will leave the general public scratching their heads. ???  There is a lot of good stuff in there for aviation buffs.

Would you believe I gave up a night at the local stock car track.   Decided to go with everybody last night.   Guess I had that enjoyable smile on my face as another guy asked me if I enjoyed it.   It was a blast and I think most people will love it.   I liked it better than CARS. #^ #^ #^

I got to attend the world premier at Oshkosh last week, and still plan to go see it in the theater, hope to take my nephew's kids. Like I said before, it's a predictable story, but the characters are well done, and plenty of stuff to catch any aviation enthusiasts eye. I never did see "Cars" and have to see that now to sorta catch up. This will be a must buy on DVD also. Especially now that I have a grandbaby on the way

Because my hearing is such I will not be able to go to a theatre to watch it.  Can't wait however to see it at home when available.  I was shopping Thursday and found a HUGE display of planes available to buy.  I was particularly taken with the Gee Bee version.  I did note that many of the slots holding the planes were nearly empty.  I expect this movie and "tie-in" sales to give new interest in aircraft.

The Cinamark Theaters where I seen the movie a hearing aid was not needed.  Plenty loud enough.

Doc, That's my problem.  Most theatres are so loud I can not hear anything.  Hearing loss is not always confined to sounds too low.

Took my wife and youngest daughter to see it this morning. Although the story isn't as entertaining as other Pixar films like Cars or Finding Nemo, it's still pretty good. A lot of airplane detail. I like the use of Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards voices for the carrier jets in homage to "Top Gun".
