Simple solutions- show us your ideas
« on: October 21, 2006, 07:00:14 AM »
I originally posted this in the old timer section- but figured more would see it here.

While checking out the picture of Wayne's Viking I noticed something in the background. He has his drill press sitting in a cutdown cardboard box to contain the debris. What an elegant and simple solution, and it was free!

Almost everybody has a trick or 2 like this for building, flying, storing, etc. Lets see a few more. I'd post one but I have to find one in my mess first.

Some seemed to think this was a good idea, for reclaiming those glow plugs with the posts broken off from practicing 5' bottoms a little too zealously...it's a split-pin dealy, I think intended as a shear pin, I found at the local hardware store.  Pried open with a screwdriver and forced over the post stub (carefully, so you don't break the seal of the stub).  The pin may then be cut down with a Dremel wheel or something similar, but I'm too lazy...it works, I leave it alone.

My shop is in a garage that was used or a motor  home by  the people I bought my home from.  There is no ceiling so the ceiling joists are exposed, and are about 12' from the floor.  I hang my models from them using macrame rope that is about 1/4" in diameter.  My CL planes hang by the horizontal stabs and RC fuselages hang using a loop for the tail and one for the nose.  RC wings are  hung using two loops.   Works pretty good, and is "el cheap-o".   Glen
