National Balsa . . . again.
« on: February 28, 2011, 11:08:51 AM »
Since my last post regarding my order from NB I've discovered some other flaws. Some of the wood is peppered with small holes, like pin holes. Very perfect little holes, as though they were drilled, or the wood was hit with a laser. The holes run in random directions; with the grain, across the grain etc. One 1/2" piece that is now the fuse, has what appears to be a small blue plastic plug. I didn't notice it until I started sanding. Very odd.

And I did take the advise given by many and emailed National Balsa regarding the issues I had with my order. That was nine days and as yet no response.

No problem using the wood as I'll fill the holes and paint over the plug, but I'm wondering what could have caused the holes, and why the "plug"? Does this happen with any frequency? Am I to picky?

Thanks,

Brian

I have no clue what the plastic plug is, but I've got those worm holes in lots of balsa.  Interestingly, not in my latest (several months old) shipment from Lone Star.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Bugs? BUGS ???  It looks like they were playing laser tag  LL~  Maybe the plug was to cut off an enemy exit route n~

They are just trying to make the wood lighter with air holes.

Yesterday i received a order of balsa 1/16 and 3/32 (20 pieces each) and they were outstanding. They were all within 4 to 6lb. weight and most around 5lb. All1/16 measured .60 and no holes or cracks. I live in southeast Texas and normally buy from Lone Star, but i will use National Balsa again. This is my first time to use National Balsa and i did talk with a really nice lady. #^ Ron.        PS move if this is wrong location.
