Title: SR and RI ready for test flights
Post by: john e. holliday on July 30, 2014, 12:12:32 PM
Have finally got them ready for flying or try to fly.  I built these for fun and nostalgia.   The Ringmaster Imperial is one I always wanted and the Super Ringmaster was one of my first that didn't get to fly but a half a lap.   The RI is powered with an LA .46 and starting with a Zoar 11-5.   Weight on it is even 46 ounces.   The Super Ringmaster is powered by one of my trusty Fox .35 Stunts.  Weight on the SR is 38.4 ounces.   Blue Rustoleum paint on both with clear Brodak dope on the Poly-T Covering(poly-span for the old folks).

Good luck with these, Doc!  The Imperial should be a pretty good flier.

Great job on both of them Doc. They should have a lot of fun factor and they are both those kind of planes that you just put in the car when ever you go flying. I still love your International Stunt Winner though.

Nice work Doc. Like the period color scheme. My son learned to stunt on a old SR-better flier than it gets credit for. I also admired Walter's original RI in Jim Snelson's shop back in the day. It should work well for you.  8)

Well the web says it has been awhile since I posted on this thread.  Saturday I got out even with the little wind we had and put a couple more flights on the Ringmaster Imperial.   Remove the rear mounted needle valve assembly and put a smaller venture on the LA .46.   Also changed from the Zoar 11-5 to a Top Flite 11-4.   Much better plane to handle.   Second flight moved leadouts forward a 1/4 inch.   Still have more trimming to do, but I'm happy with it.

Fly on Doc.....as a circus guy, I have a soft spot for the ringmaster. Looks classic your scheme. Love to see some video of it flying.
