Title: SPINNER HELP
Post by: EddyR on August 23, 2006, 05:34:46 AM
I posted this last night and it must have gotten wiped out in the big crash.
I am building a postal Perky speed model. The rules call for a 1.5 inch spinner.I am using a ST/.15 motor and it has the small shaft. I have a new Veco 1.5 spinner but the lock nut has to be 1/4-28 on one side and the smaller ST/.15 thread on the other side. Does anyone make a lock nut like this? What is the thread on the ST shaft?  I could use a plastic spinner but the motor is going to be turning 18,000 + rpm and the metal spinner would be much better.

Ed - I make custon spinner nuts with most thread combinations.

You can call me and tell me exactly what you need.

I have an ST .15 with the small metric thread - If yours is the same, I can use it as a pattern.

Bob I just checked the ST/.15 and it is the flat top piston version and I believe they were metric like you said. The number you show has a ext so I would guess it is a work number so I will call you tomarrow. Go ahead and make it.Can you make it from steel not aluminum? A friend made me some 1/4-28 from steel many years ago and they are still in great shape. The aluminum on the small shaft would be a week spot. The motor has a beautiful aluminum spinner but it is only one inch in diameter.

Bob

I have similar problem with an OS Max .15.  The OS has a 1/4 X 20 shaft thread.  The Brodak spinner has a 1/4 X 28 front end thread.  If you can send me an address, I'll drop the one I have in the mail to you and you can copy it with the modified threads.

Thanks

Ed, I have a 1 1/2 inch Fox spinner that takes a 10 X 32 screw in the front, and also a 1 1/2 inch Veco that takes a 1/4 X 28 thread up front.  Both backplates have about # 10 shaft holes.
Could you use either of these?

Marvin thanks but I have a Veco 1.5 spinner with the 1/4-28 thread . The ST/.15 has a small shaft and is metric. I talked to Bob and he is going to make a lock nut with the proper threads in each end. I have a insert for the Veco backplate to make it fit the small shaft.
