Speed chart for line lengths-UPDATED with Excell format
« on: June 27, 2015, 07:59:50 AM »
While at Brodak's I talked with a guy about a speed chart for different line lengths.
I had calculated one for my own use. This was what he had been looking for and could not find.
He gave me his card and sent me an email from his phone. Somehow lost the card and the email never arrived.
I know he checks in on this forum so have attached the chart (PDF Format).
It has most of the line lengths that are currently used and can be modified in the Excel worksheet format for any line length or speed needed.

I took a look at your chart.  I find two things that could be done better.

The maximum true length for control lines is 70 feet.  There is no need to go beyond 70 feet.
52'-6" is a standard length used mainly for 15's in speed and racing.  it equates to 16 laps per mile.  It needs to be included in lieu of 52'-0".

Howard, after you make the edits, would appreciate it if you could also post [or email me direct] the .xls file so I could use as a basis for some personalization.

A post would be appreciated as I'm sure many others could use it in that format.

Someone check my math but looking at those speeds got me wondering so...........

The listed circumferences listed are double the correct value so the speeds end up double.

It looks like Howard did this as a two-lap chart.  So his "circumference" is actually double, or the circumference of two laps.

I checked out 60 MPH on 60' lines, which is 60 seconds per mile.  The numbers work OK, given the double circumference.

Thanks, Paul. I didn't notice that. I was looking at 62' lines and a 5.5 second lap time and wondering if I was really going 100MPH!  :-[
