Spectrum Mk III by Jimmy Casale
« on: July 06, 2012, 08:03:35 PM »
I also posted this in the Nostalgia 30 forum, but I will ask here, also.

Can anyone tell me the Flying Models "number" for the plans for Jimmy's 1983 NATS winner Spectrum Mk III?  (and the month it was published)

Thanks!

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Thank you Tim.

Now,  I will give you a badge exclaiming you the main creator of the "Search Police".

Anyway I did look over all the Nos. 30 posts and missed it.  IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY EASY FOR YOU TO SIMPLY POST THE INFO.  But then I forgot....... you have been flying stunt now for a year or more and are an Instant Expert on all things Stunt Hangar.  My Bad.

If my reaction appears a little over the top it is, and I will not apologize for it..  I cannot stand for this type of response to show up and I never do it, myself.  I simply post the info.  But then I am from the South where we are raised to be helpful.

I too dislike when someone simply puts "Do a search and you'll find it."  I have NEVER found what I'm looking for by useing the search function!  Guess I'm just no good at electronic hocus pokus.

OK.  I'm properly chastened.  Besides, I think the plan I quoted is the old version.

Bill -- if that post that I linked to (which link you can just click) isn't right say so and I'll look through 1983 and '84 of my FM collection.

Tim, I did find the CF number by accident on the topic you linked to.  The main verse of the topic is the 1979 Spectrum but Walter accidentally posted the 1983 plan and I blew it up to find the CF661 as the plan number.  I am still unaware of which month it was published.

I know you posted that one but this one is NOS 30 legal now so I thought I'd let you know I had it ready.

Okay then I guess you & I will have to wait until March of 2014 to make the 30 years for the published date.

Hi Walter

The "published date" is pretty much irrelevant in this case (as in Classic and PAMPA OTS), the model won the 1983 NATS, so it is eligible Jan. 1, 1983.  "Published" is only one of the possible means of eligibility.  Flown, designed, etc., all count.  This is like Bobby Lampione's Sabre.  It won the 1969 NATS so it is Classic legal even though it wasn't "published" until 1970.   ;D

I think Paul Walker won the 93 NATs. But your essential point is right, it's not a matter of when it was published, if it existed in year X, it's legal in year x+30

Thanks Brett, Paul and Randy!  I of course did mean the 1983 NATS, and I have no clue as to why I wrote '93 twice!  Unless it was because I was at the 1993 NATS and my subconscious just took over.

It is corrected now.  :-[  :o

Thanks, again!

Sorry guys... as I thought I understood the rule on the rolling date we'd have to wait for the published date on these "my bad".
I guess the good thing is that now I can start on the 83 nats winner sooner than later.

Thanks for clearing that up; well at least for me.

Where'd you get an FM plans book?  They list FF and RC on their website, but no CL.

Bill,

Check your e-mail.  I sent you scans of the article.  I ordered a couple of plans from FM within the last 30 days and was prepared for a wait.  One week later they were at my door in a USPS triangular box that the USPS had done their best to destroy.  The plans were a little creased, but okay.

Tim.

There are scans of the CL section an older FM plans catalog in the admin section.  It's a great reference for those classic and N-30 designs.  I wasn't able to get it stickied in a better place.  Maybe someone else can get it done.

What web site did you get on.  I have a page up now that shows all their CL plans and prices.  I typed in Flying Models on yahoo and up came the listings.  I clicked on the listing that shows the catagories for Flying Models which brought up the Carstons Book Store.

If you're referring to their plans directory that you access from that page, it lists a frustratingly small fraction of their plans.

I just went and looked again by clicking on CL Plans.   More plans there than I could build in several life times.   I guess it depends on what type of CL plane you are looking for.  Scale modelers should go out of their minds with the selections.  I didn't look at the stunt plans as I ran out of fingers and toes on me, the dogs, the cats and the family.
