Specifications and Information on the Quek YAK 9 D Kit Release
« on: February 18, 2012, 10:08:20 AM »
Very little has been found on the physical specifications of the Quek FULL FUSELAGE YAK 9 D. We do now know that it was first built and flown in 1967 so that does make it Classic Legal and Nostalgia 30 legal.

Thanks to John Miller who will be transposing the plans into a CAD file so that the kit can be laser cut, I am able to give you the following specifications. Please keep in mind that there could be a small margin of error but not enough to make any significant difference.

Here are you specs on this model:

Figuring a wing span of 54.5", we wind up with the following information.

The total wing area, including flaps, is 575.5 sq. inches.
The wing is 2.025" thick at the root.
When including the flaps, the airfoil percentage, at the root, is 16%.
Without the flaps, it is 19.5%.
Total flap area is 77.5 sq. inches.
Flap to wing area ratio is 13.5%.

The total stab+elevator area = 100.89 sq. inches.

The stab/elevator ratio is 55 to 45%

The Nose moment Leading edge to the back of the spinner is 8.6".
The Tail moment is 15.637, hingeline to hingeline.
The fuselage length is 39.75' from the back of the spinner, to the back of the rudder.

I have established a special e mail address for taking orders on this model which is YAK9@wingsonstrings.com.  You can also see this information on my website at www.wingsonstrings.com and order on the "CONTACT US" page on the site. Of course you may tell me you want a kit oh here but to keep Leonard's forum as clutter free as possible, I have established that e mail address just for this purpose.

I also want to address pricing and how pricing on this model or any Signature model I produce is priced. A lot of factors go into determining the price of any custom kit run. One of the biggest is the number of kits sold. The more the better as far as cost goes. At the current time, there are 7 firm orders in house. In order to make any kit run cost effective for you all, there needs to be at least 15 orders minimum but twenty makes it even better. So as you can see we are about halfway there now which is really good for the posting only being a couple of days old. Another major factor is how much material and how many minutes of laser time does it take to cut the model. When John completes the CAD file, he will send me a hard copy of the plans from which I will do a take off and make a material list and then send the file to the laser cutter for a prototype to be cut so I can determine the amount of laser time I will have to pay for. Shipping costs are shipping costs, there is nothing any of us can do to control that. With all that being said, I think anyone who has previously ordered one of my Signature Kits, such at the Steve Buso's Jaguar or Jean Pailet's Playmate & Skylark, can attest the kits have been a good value for the amount spent. The contest balsa and quality of laser cutting has been absolutely excellent.
Hopefully this will give you some insight of what I have to do before I can give you a firm prices and ask for a deposit. I can tell you it will be less than $200.00 Maybe that will help a little with your budgeting.

To my knowledge, this is the ONLY full fuselage YAK 9 D kit that is available. There are lots of profiles floating around out there but unless I am mistaken (and that is possible) I think this is the ONLY model of its type that has been offered.

ELECTRIC I know this is a lengthy post but there is one more thing that I want to discuss. I had a discussion with Eric Rule of RSM yesterday (he will be doing the laser cutting on this project) and we want to make this kit available as an Electric as well as for a engine. So we will be working to make the parts available in your kit to make an easy conversion to Electric if you wish. You will have the option of the best of both worlds in this kit.

That is it. All we need now is some more orders and we can make this one of a kind kit available.

Thank you and I hope this information has been valuable and will help you make a decision .

Mike

Gentlemen,

Thought you might like to see the Yak 9d's paint scheme for the aircraft in Mr. Griffin's photo.

Also, is a photo of the Yak 9d's fierce looking pilot looking for his next Bf 109 or Fw 190.

Mr. Lauerman,

Attached are two .jpg files of that no good, lowlife, hard drinking, woman chasing, rascal of a pilot.

You may use them at your own risk.

I have the USN leather flight jacket, but need a skull cap/flying helmet!  I could definitely use that in my Sterling F6F profile!
