SpaceCoast AeroModelers Fun Fly In was "Fun"
« on: January 08, 2007, 10:48:40 AM »
More info/photo's to come, just wanted to "Thank" everyone who participated in our Control Line Fun Fly In yesterday, 7 January 2007.
Thanks also to those who made generous donations to the "Kitty" which will be presented to the School Administration (General fund) as a sign of our appreciation for  allowing the use of the school grounds.
We had two grass and one paved (2 possible if required) circle that were in use all day.
(39) pilots signed up and flew Stunt, Combat, BiSlob duo, Clown Racing, Fox Racing and "B" Team Racer.

We also want to thank Phil Coopy and The Ridge Barnstormers, Lake Wales, FL club for hosting a great Fun Fly in November 2006, which gave us the idea to for our Fun Fly.
Phil, I believe you have started something "Good!"

Roger:

Those of us from the X47 Flyers who attended (shame on those who did not) had an enjoyable time despite the breezy conditions.  You have a very nice site.  Hope there can be more of these fun flys.

Thanks for the hospitality!!

Yes Sir the Fun Fly was just that. Toby and I had to leave early as he has little ones who play soccer. What we did is bring out some of our old fun fly planes and fly those. It is always fun to fly a Ringmaster, Yak ,T square and so on. We didn't see the bi-slobs go and that was to bad. B Team race now that brings back some old memories. B team race was a hot event back in the 50"s. Five at a time!!!! I'll never forget those events. Old combat was different then to. Ringmasters and Clowns mostly and other Sterling models. These planes could not turn like the later models so it was very different. There was no Flight Streak's  back then. Actually you could say the FlightStreak ruined the real old combat event because they out flew the rest of the models so easily. We went to Contests in the fifties on the east coast. We went to New Castle Del. Millville, NJ Bristol, PA and Willow Grove Nationals.
That was really a show. I am very grateful that my father took me to these meets. I looked forward to them every year. High school changed things some what and my Dad drifted to the dark Side better known as RC. That made me a plane chaser!!! and launcher to. My brothers took over for me as cars and Girls took me over. But thats another old story.  Chuck Feldman Stuart, Fl.

Great Fun Fly!  Joyce and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Little windy but as I allus say, "The wind is your friend".  Thanks to the guys who pitted for me(gotta teach Joyce to do that) and it was nice to see some of the guys that attended our fun fly at Lake Wales.  See you all at KOI.  The club here is asking when we'll do it again...got some of the RC guys interested. Thanks Roger.

Maybe fun flies might be the answer in getting the old airplanes out flying, not to mention the ones who own them.  Now that I think of it, back in the early 70's I was having get together at the old city park.  We always had at least 6 people flying.  It when I went to a contest one weekend they quit coming out.  I guess I was the leader at the time.  The thing about a fun fly, was if you didn't want to fly, you didn't.  A lot of hangar flying went on also.  DOC Holliday

PS:Now I think of it.  No judges.  No score sheets.  AMA license still required tho.

The Corsair belongs to Frank Wyatt of Jacksonville.  I believe it is a converted RC airplane.  It has retracts and throttle control.  Both are controlled by radio.  Power is a 4C of some kind.
