Southern California Flying Sites
« on: October 03, 2012, 12:27:22 PM »
I will be spending the months of February and March 2013 in San Diego.  Does anyone know of any control line flying sites in the Greater San Diego area?

Thanks

I might suggest that if you are a PAMPA member, you could go on  line and look at the members listing for that area.  That what I would do when I went out of town for company schools.   Amazing how many people helped the time go faster while out of town.  Might also take a peek at the FOTO(find one teach one) section of this forum.

Contact Charlie Johnson .
If your not familiar with Charlie, he flys combat/racing, has been a combat columnist for AMA, has been to many World Champs, etc. He lives in San Diego. Here is the e-mail I have for him. I hope it's up to date.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Can anyone give me the specific locations of Whitter Narrows and Sepulveda.  Are there any flying time restrictions at these sites and any fees for flying there?

Hi Peter,

Whittier Narrows is located in South El Monte, CA

The entrance is on Rosemead Blvd, just north of the 60 Freeway.
A description and map link may be found here: http://www.kotrc.org/whittiernarrows.php

There is a $6.00 park entry fee on weekends and holidays. The field is open from dawn to dusk.

Sepulveda basin is in Van Nuys, CA

The field entrance is off Woodley ave just north of Burbank ave. No entrance fee, flying from dawn to dusk.
A description and map link may be found here: http://www.kotrc.org/sepulvedabasin.php

The Hi Johnson Contest at Sepulveda basin is this coming weekend, Oct 6 and 7.
If you're in the neighborhood, just drop on by.

Regards,
Stan

Stan

Thank you for the links, they are very helpful.  Hopefully I will get a chance to use these sites for practice in late Feb and early March prior to VSC.
