Here are few photos from the contest:

1)  Beginner and Intermediate scores.
2)  Expert and Advanced scores.  Notice that the high scores were in the Advanced, not Expert, even though they flew on the same circle in front of the same judges.
3)  Pilot's Choice winner -- Bill Wilson's NFP ("New Fat Plane") 1.  Notice the flying tail surface.
4)  Terry Tucker flying Rick Ashford's old Super Kestrel in what turned out to be it's final flight.  Rick built that airplane in 1992 and probably had a 1000 flights on it before he gave it away.  I had no idea that that airplane was still around.
5)  The remains of the Super Kestrel.
6)  The whole gang on Sunday afternoon.

A few more photos...

1)  Mike Scott's Saturn.  Unfortunately, turbulence caused it to bottom out on the inside loops in the second round.  There was severe damage to the nose and tail section.  Hopefully he will be able to repair it.
2)  Bill Wilson's NFP 1 in the air.
3)  Craig Beskow's PA 75 powered Impact.  Craig posted the high score of the contest with the last flight of day.
4)  Gil Causey and Craig Beskow setting the needle on Gil's Oriental for his second round flight.

I don't know exact specifications for Bill's new plane, but it continues the exploration of innovative/creative methods Bill began with Hunter One. Each Hunter has been designed/built to answer specific questions and this one is no exception. LA65 too heavy? most agree, but what if a short nose moment is needed and you have the ability (like Bill) to get the power of a 90 out of the 65 and not have to add noseweight? And can aluminum weld the required header/muffler to fit inside the ring cowl? A touch of dihedral for the vertical C.G. Light weight flaps, stiff as a bridge, with carbon rods in the trailing edges pinned to the flap horns. But the question I had on it was the flying stab- is it strong, will it corner? Before he covered it, the stab looked to me like a flimsy free-flight structure. Not so. It is incredibly strong, will not twist and the three tubes, two carbon, one aluminum that form the pivot structure, are ingeniously engineered. Bill is flying the corners, has more in reserve, it just won't stall, it really corners well, never a tension loss in the usual places. He has about eight flights on it so far, so the envelope is being expanded with every flight. I'm not familiar with many of the other things about this plane, but it is carbon/composite, flies like it is on rails, weighs 68 ozs, and is certainly not a lawn dart! (I am a fan, obviously) dg

This South Arkansas contest was the first in what will be a long line of meets. Norm and his guys worked really hard to insure an enjoyable time for all. They were very successful! They have the city and county backing them as they take a landfill and convert it to a very useable facility, it is going to continually improve. The tangible assets they have are great, but the intangibles, their attitude toward their visitors, their preparations for the contest, that's their biggest asset. Remember, this is an RC club running a control line event, every member pitched in and helped, such cooperation is contagious. A start-up contest, training new event directors, judges, pull testers, food suppliers, takes effort, and these people put their hearts into the task. You all are off to a great start, thanks, dg and lb

Bill is off the charts awesome.

Look at that monster at 68 oz with a 22 oz motor in it!!!!

Now that is light...

BTW, it is easy to get 90 stunt engine power out of LA 65.  Start it.

Zuriel and I were all set to attend, then I got the 3am call that Z had contracted a bad case of dual orifice spewicus.  So, I was unable to attend.  Apoligies to Zuriel to putting his business all out there.

Seems like a cork could have been used to slow things down for Z-Man?

Dang Lou...and my other friend Paul.

Usually there is a horn before the bus.

I take exception to the statement above...it was 9:30AM when I called. VD~

I did have a really nasty SINUS infection cured with a steroid shot...ouch!!!

Sinus infection? Bummer. That's what comes of working too much, Z.  When you go fly on your days off, your system can't handle the fresh air. VD~

Sounds like it was a great contest.  I'll be there next year.  I was going to fly on Sunday but I ended up with of all things Pneumonia the week before.  Argh...what a mess that was.  I would have much rather been there flying.

What caused the Super Kestrel to crash?

Guys,

As a member of the hosting club I cant say thanks enough to everyone that came in to fly in the meet.  Norm and everyone in the club really worked hard to get everything ready.  I had a blast meeting and flying with everyone that came in from out of town.

The My Toy plane I think is an old SV 11 that used to be Don Meloncons.  Who was flying it?

The Super Kestrel would be Rick Ashfords from about 90-91-92 maybe.  Who was flying that one?
