Hello All,

I posted this as a response to Bill's inspiration question, but wanted to start a thread rather that hijack Bill's.

The Central Alabama Stunt Squadron intends to have a Warbird Stunt Class at our fall contest this year. I don't know if this has been done before or not, so we are starting with a clean sheet.

I have been working on some guidelines/rules; this is what I have so far:

1. Must be a recognizable model of an actual military aircraft with appropriate national markings.
No Nobler or Primary Force type models, for example, with military markings.

2. Colors/markings appropriate to aircraft mission---no air race or private party colors.

3. Profile or full fuselage models OK.

4. Five point bonus for landing gear attached to the structure in the scale location.

5. This is NOT a scale contest---the full PAMPA pattern will be flown.

6. All AMA safety rules will apply.

I am open to suggestions on how to make this work---fire away!!

A *Warbird* in Warbird Markings....... what's not to understand??? I hope it really catches on. A nice departure to help get some new looks into the party.

You get the gold star!! Military experimental planes are something I had thought about, but I figured most would not be viable stunt planes. The only problem I can think of, offhand, is some sort of picture of the actual plane.
If you can convince the judges that it was an actual military airplane, go for it!!

In my research, I have seen bright yellow P51D's---who would'a thunk it??
(Target tugs---what a comedown!!)

Also, special colors, like the Navy Beetle Bomb Bearcat would be "legal", since the airplane was colored appropriate to its mission. Lots of possibilities there.

I plan to do a Pat Johnston P51D profile and have looked for unusual colors, like the target tug version. There were several foreign military P51D's with camo paint, bit I have not found a US or British camo D model.

Sounds like fun to me.

Wasn't there a Vietnam era version of the Mustang which wore the camo?? ?? ?? I seem to remember something..........

How about this one a Japanese Me109 with the landing gear in the right place I did a lot of research on this one.

Acording to some accounts, the plane called the Japanese Me109 was actually the Ki 61 Hein. If you compare side by side pix of the two, the differences are esy to see.

Not to say that you couldn't round the tips and call your model a Ki 61, if you wanted to, or change to German markings.

The Germans sent 5 Me109s to Japan for evaluation. The Japanese didn’t like the planes but liked the engine. After the test they put the planes out into a squadron.

Looks like different "authorities" have different opinions?? Maybe what the MA site is saying is that the Japanese
version didn't see combat??

I couldn't actually view the pix on the site you posted---what do I need to do?

Have to backup Willis here, I have several sources that show and document the bf 109 in Japenese livery. Being a really big fan of all of Willys designs I like several others have amassed a rather obscene collection of stuff on them. (not to say its either all inclusive or 100% correct) but there is definate coraboration for there being a Japenese bf 109. The Ki-61 actually more resembles the Heinkel He-100 which was a very limited ( I think less than a couple dozen built) design that the germans at varied times tried to convince the world they had squadrons of. In fact from what I hear they repainted the few they built to make it look like different squadrons.

Let me add, I am not an expert, just a passionate admirer of the 109, I too could be wrong. just stating my knowledge based upon sources I have.

After you click on the plane you want the next page pops up and there is a box that has the airplane you chose and the different countries that have them. Chose the country then the next page pops up and you chose which page you want some times there is only one page and pictures pop up. It took me a long time to figure the system.

I think the Brodak Warbird series would be a good start. I vaguely remember someone having a warbird quadrathon. I thought I might swipe/borrow/steal their idea. Later, DOC Holliday

The ribset for my Pat Johnston profile P51D came yesterday---Pat's laser cutting is as good or better than his plans.

A set of ribs for Windy's big Spitfire were also in the box, for Mark Mott.

We're getting ready!!! Looks like Willis is already ready............
Willis, that red P51H looks interesting......I could change a couple of things and make my D look like that.......

I found some pictures with some American solders looking at the Japanese Bf 109 s after the war. The 109s might not have seen action.

The latest catalogue shows a Hellcat---about 52 in. span, to be available with other models "Coming Soon".

When Ken called, I think he was told that none are available due to a shortage of basla.

Mark and I have ordered and received laser cut ribsets from Pat Johnston. Pat has plenty of 6 lb. balsa, at least for ribs.
