Sonictronic Trade-in?
« on: August 30, 2024, 08:05:29 PM »
Does anybody know if Sonictronic is doing trade-in?   They used to but when I checked the website there is not mentioned.
Would like to trade-in an old one.
Thanks
Jay

Just buy a replacement battery.
I got two off Amazon a few years ago for $3.
Cut the case off in the middle and disorder the connections and solder onto new battery. Put case back on and tape or heat shrink. Good to go.
It was cheaper than postage. Still working.

The paperwork that comes with a new one says they have a replacement policy....call them on the phone and talk to the nice lady.

Be interesting to know.  I have at least a half dozen old dead ones.....I usually buy two new ones each spring.

Probably similar to K&B years ago....take in or send in a worn out engine and they would send you a NIB engine for $50 for a K&B 61.
They called it 'maximum repair'.
I'll bet over the years I got 10 61's this way.
Don't bother replacing the battery...I don't think it can be replaced without damaging the meter...not worth the effort... etc etc..

these are over 2yrs old and still charging. Granted I’m almost all electric but use them for Bi-Slob’n and loan to flying buddies that are still IC.
If you can use a soldering iron, it’s so easy a caveman can do it .

I get the replacement cell at Batteries+.  You will need a heavy duty soldering iron so you can solder the new battery on quickly and not apply a lot of heat using to small soldering iron.  It is also a good idea to "tin" to negative end of the battery. After soldering the positive wire to the battery, slip the orange covers back on the battery.  I then apply a return address label over the joint and then seal the whole thing with clear shipping tape. If you happen to forget your ignitor at the flying site, anyone finding it can return it to you.

Depends on the size. I liked the short stubby one. Think it was 300mah

Maybe long ago, but they haven’t made anything smaller than the 3800 nimh for quite a few years.
