Two fliers met and renewed an old friendship at the NATS today.
What was special about this meeting?
Who met: Dave Gardner, age 72 and Clancy Arnold, age 75.
When was the last time they had been together?
Dave and his family moved away from Greenfield IN, where we used to fly together, in 1950!!! I always remembered being taller than Dave but at the time Dave moved away he was 12 and I was 15. The picture shows that Dave is now taller than me.
Today we met again after 60 years. How did this come about?
About 3 years ago I saw the name Dave Gardner on Stunt Hangar and sent him a message and asked if he had ever lived in Greenfield IN. Dave replied "YES."
After that it was just trying to coordinate schedules to meet again. We enjoyed a dinner together today with our wives and much reminiscence.
Thanks to Stunt Hangar an old friendship has been renewed!

Clancy,
that is awesome, on top of it, Dave is a great guy, hes from this neck of the woods and we totally appreciate him and what he does for the national stunt scene, as well as locally

That is great Dave and Clancy. This world is not so big after all. When Ken Smith was still with us at a VSC banquet, he looked at me and said DOC there is someone at this table you may know. It was Randy Cuberly from the old Flying Eagles Club days back in Kansas City Kansas. We were teenagers also. I move to southern Missouri and by the time I got back to KCK he was gone to other places. Thanks for the story and helping bring back memories. H^^

That is a heart-warming story Clancy, Thanks for sharing.
When I was about 12, a pair of brothers that had been very good friends moved away. The older I get, the more I wish I had been smart enough to get their new address and stay in touch. You two done good!

Congratulations to you two gentlemen. :)

I'm happy for you Clancy.
I was at the NATS on Weds. and Thurs. and managed not to see you at all. Where were you hiding? Sure was hot wasn't it?
-
Frank
My wife Pat and I left the NATS shortly after picking up Dave and then we picked up Dave's wife Angela from their motel. Then we all went to the air conditioned Red Lobster Restaurant for lunch and two hours of chatting. We then took Dave and Angela back to the NATS.
You did not expect us to stand out in that heat for two hours, did you?
Clancy

Clancy---two hours in that heat chased me to the air conditioned halls of the AMA museum. Even if we didn't get to greet it's my pleasure to have been there when you were.

Frank
I am going to surprise you and sneak up to one of your contests.

Hey, this reminds me....

That would be wonderful Clancy. I'm sure the other guys will be just as happy as me to get to spend some time with you.

Paul,
I promised Jan that this year we would take a couple of weeks together and go to the New England area. I'm writing this reply in Bridgeport CT. :>)
Crist

Crist, hope you are having fun. At least you are missed. Now I have a question. Do you have a brother flying radio control? ???
-
Doc,
Yes, I do. Twin brother Dave flies R/C.
Dave is on the left, my nephew David, me, and my niece Mellisa.
-
Well no wonder he looks so much like you. I see he is doing well flying the twiddly stick planes. H^^
