Hi All,
Some years ago when we had a lot more CL fliers, we used a basic model called a Slo-Bat (Slow-Bat??) for beginner combat. It is really simple to build with paper covered foam wings and simple hard wood fuselage. I had one kit left over and gave it to my young friend Theo Kleynhans to play with. I showed him how to cover the wings with paper and white wood glue watered down 60/40 and he did the rest. I used tea bag tissue which is very close to medium silkspan. The local importer had a damaged roll that they gave me, so I have a large roll of the stuff......about 3 km! (+/- 1.8 miles). It worked great but Theo wanted to paint it and asked me what to use. I told him to buy some craft paint, give the kids brushes and let them loose on the thing. His two boys are 2 and 6 years of age and they had a ball as you can see from the photo's below. You can see the two different "painting techniques" from each kid. I especially like the paw print! Theo then brushed on a coat of 2K polyurethane clear to fuel proof it. The engine is a MVVS .15 and after a few trimming flights, we both had a ball with it. This is a good way to get your kids involved and of course it is a lot of fun form them as well. So well done to Theo and his boys Juan and Wynand!

Cool. I used to really like teaching kids to build and fly. Hard to find any kids interested nowadays. Good job!
