At Black Hawk Models we have, over the years, ran several contest. We have offered money, model kits and engines as prizes. Our hope and goal has been to encourage out of the box thinking, especially among younger modelers. Here are some of the contest:
DESIGN A MODEL PLANE
DESIGN A CONTROL LINE CONTROL SYSTEM (RUBE GOLDBERG)
PAINT A PILOT
INVENT A STOOGE
and NAME A PLANE
The first 4 brought in only a few contestants and were a general flop. In the Name A Plane contest we had several contestants and only one winner. We also received several complaints about our choice. In this contest we had a plane that looked like a SR 71 Black Bird, but we could not use those names. The finial choice was "Sting Ray". We picked the name because it seemed to fit the plane and it's initials are "SR" sort of a finger in the eye of Lockheed. There were several other good names and several others that were not so good and a few that were out right bad names. I am sorry that there could be only one name picked but that was it. At the last board meeting there was a major discussion about not having anymore contest.
