Title: Some answers at last
Post by: Gary Dowler on September 27, 2017, 12:33:49 AM
Got out today and it was beautiful weather.  Only got a few  flights up but it was worth it.  My Shoestring Stunter was nearly DOA. Stuff shifted in the truck despite very slow and careful driving and broke the whole tail section of the fuselage off. I was most distressed.  Fortunatelyi had brought CA and accelerant so I figured "it flies or it dies" and glued it back together. Flew great still. It's only been up once this year so I was REALLY rusty and my confidence was......low.  Loops, wingovers, inverted, outside loop and a couple horizontal 8's were pulled off.

Then the biplane. CG is now 3" back (37% of wing chord) with 3oz on the tail. Better but not perfect. Secured the flaps and the change was completed. Pitch response was now fairly snappy. I'm sure it will loop now, but try as I might I just couldn't make myself go for it. Inverted is only half a loop, but couldn't go there either!  Was frustrating and comical at the same time.

Both ships now sport 3" wheels and the difference from the 2.5"'s was very apparent on the grass.

Who on this site is a fuel tank expert? I'd like to ask some questions about my tank design.

There are many folks here that can answer most questions about fuel tanks and fuel problems if you can describe the symptoms in detail.  Generalizations about what is happening however usually are not enough to make even a good guess!  Make a detailed description of the fuel system and the problem and we can probably make some sensible suggestions for a solution!

Better yet, really confuse your self and do a search on fuel tanks.   There are so many variables as to tank type and size.   Get ready to do a lot of reading. VD~

Hey Doc there is an upside

On the 7 planes I have flying right now....all are set up using the great advice on these forums... I may be to neophyte flyer and to dumb to know if they are not perfect...

BUT so far, using common agreed on set ups; for engine, venturi /NVA, fuel, tank type and set up, props... I rarely experience weird or unusual flights

I read these forums a LOT more than I post and I find there are not a lot of truly unique configurations...

In this case I am willing to go out on a limb and suggest seriously trying to find a stash of good Hayes clunk tanks

Truly amazing how much easier they are to set correctly

Thunder Tiger has a close look a like---but also never in stock in our 3 to 7 oz sizes
