Some additional Nat's pictures
« on: July 26, 2013, 11:57:15 AM »
OK, my District V column is done, and these are a few leftover pictures I thought still worth sharing.

They're not my best stuff, nor meant to be comprehensive in any way. It was a pretty busy week, and the camera spent most of the time baking in the van... I wasn't in the most creative mood, and it's amazing how fast the 180 building empties out when people still want to go practice because there's another couple hours of daylight.

If you want a truly complete documentary of the Nat's, then Gene Martine's your man, his DVD will have everything from practice to the awards. I'm also guessing Fitton will have some nice stuff once he's done with his column too.

Eric,

Great shots !!   Thanks for posting them for us.   The closeups make you realize just how much
craftsmanship goes into those planes.   It seems, the closer you get, the better they look.

One feature that is appreciated, is the apparent increase in popularity of the see-through canopy.
Painted canopies had pretty much taken over for the past few years, but seeing a well-done
clear canopy can make you appreciate just how much nicer they are.  IMHO

Sorry about your camera being neglected....If I had been there, I would have kept it
busy for you !   :-)

Cheers.

Thanks Tom... Here's some of the outdoors variety...

The shot of Matt in the pullout is classic Matt...heh. The other shot shows the long shadows of typical late evening flying at Muncie as the clouds finally roll in, too little too late to provide any shade as Doug gets animated, heh. A nice shot of the wad of green under Howards otherwise neat high tech carbon fiber clad hood. The rest will be from Top 5 day and Jr/Sr. This shot of Dale & Gavin is the maiden flight of the re-assembled Twister.

Thanks Warren. There's more to those clear things than just looks. It's like wheel pants... some people won't sacrifice the weight or potential failure modes that can happen. Its a personal choice. Just the hunk of plastic alone weighs darn near 3/4 ounce, never mind the chair and pilot and doo dads that can come loose and ruin your day. I truly appreciate those brave souls, but I'll stick to my 1/4 ounce painted block, which also is structural, right over the horn where a lot of planes fold in half. Now wheel pants, a plane without them is just plain ugly! Ahahahahahahah... Hey, by the way, lets all chip in and help Howard buy some new wheels... LOL!

Oh, and here's some more...

Thanks for more great pictures.   I really like the detail shots of some of the planes.   Does look like Howard needs new treads.

Hey, you know how cheap engineers are.....and he's retired to boot. There's lots of miles left in those wheels!

Don't feel lonesome.   Had problems with the old Ford yesterday which is in the supporters section.   By the way your plane looks like a 20 pointer to me. H^^

Thanks Eric, great pics. I really like the pics the planes being launched.
In the shot where I'm launching Doug's plane he's already got it up on the main
gear for a nice rollout. Also, as you said during the Top 5 flyoff, Doug launching
for fellow competitor Derek is the true definition of sportsmanship.

Later, Steve
